YouTube Dark Mode Now Available On Android

YouTube confirmed back in March this year that it would release a dark mode for its mobile apps. The mode was actually released first for the iOS app even though many would have expected it to arrive for the Android version first. A few months after the YouTube dark mode made its appearance on iOS, it’s finally available for YouTube on Android devices.

The dark mode was first added for YouTube on the desktop late last year. It was then revealed that the mobile apps would get it as well starting with the iOS version.

The YouTube for Android dark mode has been rolled out quietly it appears. Even though a formal announcement of sorts has not been made that this mode is available for Android, users can now find it applied automatically with a pop-up at the bottom of the screen which mentions that this feature is available now. Users will get an option to turn off the mode and dismiss the prompt.

The “Dark theme” toggle can also be located in the Settings menu where it’s listed under the General menu just below the “Remind me to take a break” feature. Even though the mode applies the dark theme to much of the app, the channels will keep their colorful app bars even though the video player remains black before it fully loads.

Coal has completely transformed the landscape in Central Appalachia. This region’s rich history of coal mining dates back to the 18th century. Surface mining, however, is a more “modern” form of extracting the dirty fuel source that requires clearing forests and sometimes blowing up mountains to reach the rich coal…

‘Clearly White’ Google Pixel 3 XL Leaked Online

Google is expected to unveil its new Pixel smartphones this October. The company has been launching its new smartphones in the month of October for the past two years and it’s not expected to stray from tradition in 2018. The Pixel 3 leaks are gradually coming in. A couple of images have surfaced online claiming to show off the Pixel 3 XL in its “Clearly White” color.

The images of this purportedly leaked Pixel 3 XL in Clearly White have emerged from XDA forums and they are similar to the earlier leaks that we have seen so far concerning the upcoming Pixel smartphones.

The device itself is said to be a prototype of the Pixel 3 XL which doesn’t boot because it has been wiped remotely by Google. The fastboot photo does show that there’s “no valid slot to boot.” Other information mentioned on the screen shows that this particular model has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. A previously leaked model had 128GB of storage.

The image also reiterates that the Pixel 3 is going to feature a notched display. The notch will likely be used to house the front facing cameras, the Pixel 3 is likely going to have a dual front camera setup.

We’ll surely see additional leaks concerning the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL in the weeks to come.

Chilean Firm Develops Non-Plastic Bags That Dissolve In Water

A lot still needs to be done to counter plastic pollution. Plastic products continue to pollute seas and rivers across the globe. A Chilean firm seems to have come up with an alternative to this pressing issue. It has invented a non-plastic bag which is free of oil derivatives which makes it capable of dissolving in water.

Chilean company Solubag has put forward a solution that uses hydrogen, carbon, and a synthetic polymer to produce a grocery bag that doesn’t use any plastic. These non-plastic bags can quickly dissolve in cold water and won’t take countless years to disintegrate much like their plastic-based counterparts.

The company worked with its partner in China on this invention. It patented the raw material and a utility model for different kinds of bags. The concept of water solubility behind this product has been patented by the company as well.

Solubag’s Roberto Astete and Christian Olivares first started looking into an alternative to plastic bags many years ago. They later put their findings to the test in China’s southern Guangdong Province with Chinese firm Polye Materials.

The pair added that the bag they have invented is free of contaminants which makes it easy for the material to break down in water. The invention could advance the effort to reverse water pollution.

“We were looking for a way to lower production costs, which led us to try with different suppliers to guarantee the quality of our product and always be environmentally friendly,” Astete said.

Amazon Reportedly Developing Another Smartphone

Amazon has seen much success with various hardware products including but not limited to tablets and smart speakers but its stint in the smartphone market was a disaster. It tried its luck with the Fire Phone back in 2014 which turned out to be a flop. Amazon hasn’t made a smartphone since then but if a new report is believed, the company might be working on another smartphone.

During Amazon’s presentation at the Television Critics Association press tour earlier this year, Amazon Studios chief Jen Salke was asked if Amazon was working on a new smartphone. She mentioned that not only has she seen a prototype of this new smartphone but that she actually has one in her office.

Salke said that the company “had a prototype phone that showed me the interface that they’re working on that’s about to be — that’s in the middle of being developed and coming soon.”

She added that the phone is intuitive to use but didn’t say if there’s any timeline for when Amazon wants to put this device on the market or if it’s even thinking about doing that. For all we know, Amazon might not pursue this beyond the prototype phase.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Amazon does launch a new smartphone particularly given the bad experience it had with the Fire Phone some four years ago.
