Nintendo Switch Online Subscriptions Available For Pre-Purchase

We’ve known for a while that Nintendo has plans to launch their own online gaming service similar to what Sony is doing with the PlayStation Plus and Microsoft with their Xbox Live. The service is scheduled for a release later this year and for those who are interested, it seems that you can now pre-purchase the subscription.

The subscription can be bought via Amazon and it won’t kick in until the service launches. Note that the pre-purchase is only for the 12-month membership which is priced at $20 for essentially the entire year. If you’re unsure if you plan to stick around for the whole year, Nintendo will also be selling subscriptions at $3.99 a month, or $7.99 if buy it in blocks of 3 months, but clearly the annual option is cheaper.

Nintendo’s online service is considerably cheaper than the competition, although we wouldn’t be surprised if in the future they might raise those prices. The online service will be required for gamers to play their games online, so unless you plan on playing single-player games or local co-op games, you will need to get a subscription to play with others online.

The service is currently set for a launch this coming September so you’ve still got a couple of months to think it over.

Nikon Starts Countdown To Mirrorless Announcement On August 23

Nikon has recently confirmed that they are working on a new mirrorless camera. During the announcement, the company did not state when the camera would be announced, but a datamine on Nikon’s website revealed that the announcement could take place on the 23rd of August.

Now it looks like the date has been confirmed as Nikon’s website has started a countdown to the official announcement. As per the previous report, it has been confirmed that the announcement will be taking place on the 23rd of August. There will be a live stream of the upcoming event so those who are interested will be able to watch the announcement as it unfolds.

Nikon seems to be putting in a lot of effort to announce the upcoming camera so presumably it will be a huge deal for the company. Nikon’s mirrorless efforts haven’t really been that well-met compared to the likes of Sony, and given that we’re starting to see more photographers hop on board the mirrorless bandwagon, it looks like Nikon has decided to double down on their efforts.

Not much is known about the camera save for the rumors, such as the use of a full-frame sensor and also the introduction of a new Z-mount. Either way we will find out in about a month’s time, so check back with us then for the details.

Telegram Announces New ‘Passport’ Authorization Feature

These days our instant messenger apps are more than just apps to send messages with. For example many of these such apps are capable of making voice and video calls, playing games, sharing files, and even making mobile payments. This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that Telegram has introduced a new feature to its app.

Dubbed “Passport”, according to Telegram this is a unified authorization method for services that might require personal identification. All users have to do is upload their official documents and then be able to share that information on the fly with services that might call for them, such as finance, ICOs, and more.

This might sound like a privacy nightmare waiting to happen, but according to Telegram, “Your identity documents and personal data will be stored in the Telegram cloud using End-to-End Encryption. It is encrypted with a password that only you know, so Telegram has no access to the data you store in your Telegram passport. When you share data, it goes directly to the recipient.”

The feature should already be live so all you’d have to do is own the latest version of Telegram and you’ll be good to go. Telegram also notes that they will be adding more features such as third-party verification in the future.
