Smart assistants are supposed to be smart at helping us be more productive but they have so far fallen short of that. They have not yet reached a point where we can trust them with our schedules, appointments, and routines, secure in the knowledge that they will take action at the right time. Google Assistant has taken one step closer … Continue reading
If it were a question of novelty, this year’s winners are Chinese brands not many might be aware of. The Vivo NEX S and then the OPPO Find X have definitely stirred up interest in alternative solutions to the bezel-less screen puzzle. But while their elevating tops are almost ingenious in their creativity, they also raise questions of durability. Fortunately, … Continue reading
The amount of RAM we’re starting to see in smartphones these days is increasing. Of course whether or not we need so much RAM is up for debate, but from a marketing perspective it definitely sounds good to advertise a phone that features 8GB of RAM versus a competitor who might only offer 4GB or 6GB.
While 8GB RAM smartphones aren’t quite as common yet, it seems that OPPO could be taking things up a notch because according to a post on Weibo by a Chinese leakster (via GSMArena), it seems that OPPO could be launching the R17 smartphone (presumably the successor to the R15 and R15 Pro) which could pack as much as 10GB of RAM.
Not much is known about the R17 at the moment, but the leakster shared an image of what appears to be a stage rehearsal for OPPO’s event where the phone will be revealed. Interestingly enough OPPO won’t be the only company to launch a smartphone with 10GB of RAM. Earlier this year there were rumors that Vivo could have something similar in the works.
Like we said, whether or not so much RAM is necessary for the average user is unclear, but just like camera megapixel count, the higher it is the better it looks on paper.

With features like AirPlay and Google Cast, users of either iOS or Android devices have the option of sending content from their mobile devices, like their smartphones, to compatible devices like speakers, TVs, and so on. Now it looks like Amazon wants in on that action and has since launched a new feature called Alexa Cast.
It’s not a particularly creative name but it does the job of letting users know what it does. The feature is currently only available via the Amazon Music app, but for those who do use the app and service, you will be able to “cast” music from the app to compatible Alexa-enabled devices, such as the Echo lineup of speakers, and also some of Amazon’s Fire devices.
As The Verge points points out, Alexa Cast isn’t exactly a revolutionary feature and given that it only works on Amazon Music at the moment, it does feel a bit limited in terms of functionality. However a statement provided by an Amazon spokesperson says, “We’ll continue to improve this feature and expand support over time.”
Hopefully we’ll see the feature find its way to other apps in the future, such as Spotify, or maybe YouTube, although we reckon that Google might not necessarily care for the competition encroaching on its turf. If you are interested in checking it out, like we said you will need an Alexa-enabled device and the latest version of the Amazon Music app.

Kart-style racing games are popular and we have seen various companies tackle the genre, with the most successful possibly being Nintendo’s Mario Kart franchise. However as you might have heard, last month there was talk about how Nickelodeon was planning their own karting game.
Turns out the reports were true because Nickelodeon Kart Racers has been officially announced. As the name suggests, this is a racing game which will feature various characters from various Nickelodeon franchises. According to the press release, this will include popular shows such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, and more.
There will be 24 tracks that will be available at launch, all based around various locations from the different TV shows, which includes Bikini Bottom, NYC sewers, Tommy Pickle’s house, Arnold’s school, and so on. There will be local multiplayer, co-op, customization for the karts, attacks, a Battle Arena, just to name a few.
It sounds like a very standard/typical kart racing game where players not only race against each other, but will have access to tools that will attempt to hamper the other player. The game will be launched on the PS4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch on the 23rd of October where it will be priced at $40.
