3.5 Million Apple Watches Shipped In Q2 2018

By all accounts, the Apple Watch seems to be a success but for some reason Apple has yet to officially state how many units that they’ve shipped or sold. However last we heard, 46 million units have been sold to date based on estimates by an analyst. That being said, Apple does not seem to be showing signs of slowing down.

According to the latest figures from Canalys, they are reporting that Apple has shipped 3.5 million Apple Watches in Q2 2018. As we have mentioned before, shipping versus sold are different. Shipping indicates the number of units being sent to retailers and to stores, whereas sold are the actual units sold to customers.

However generally speaking companies try to anticipate demand and would generally not ship more than what is necessary, so we expect the sold numbers to be close to that figure. Canalys also reports that wearables overall saw a shipment of 10 million units in Q2 which gives Apple an estimated smartwatch market share of around 34%.

The LTE version of the smartwatch is also said to account for the majority of shipments in Asia at 60%. This shouldn’t be surprising as we have been hearing that the LTE version has been extremely popular since its release.

Google Search Now Provides More Details on Events

Google Search already provides users with a ton of info at a glance. It can provide information like movie release dates, birthdays of famous people, snippets of information that saves you time from clicking to go to a website, flight times, ticket prices, and so on. Now it looks like Google is adding events to the list.

The company has announced that they will be improving on the events feature that was launched on mobile last year. According to Google, “When you search on your phone for things like ‘events near me’ or ‘free concert’ in the U.S., you’ll not only find a list of events from a variety of sites, but also key information about the event, right on Search.”

“Tap any event you’re interested in and you’ll get an overview of things like time, location, ticketing providers and other information that will help you decide whether to attend. If you’re ready to take the plunge, you can follow the links to buy tickets from the provider of your choice.”

In addition to providing more details, Google is also providing users with more tailored search results where based on your interests, Google will also list personalized ideas for things that you can do around your location. Note that these changes are being made to mobile so if you want to check it out, you’ll have to use your phone and not your computer.

Windows 10 Will Introduce Smarter Updates

Operating system updates are pretty common where from time to time, companies issue updates to either patch security flaws, fix bugs, or introduce new features. Now for those who use Microsoft’s Windows operating system, you’re probably familiar with how sometimes you are prompted to update Windows at the least opportune moments.

For example you could be watching a video when you are prompted, or typing out an email, working, completing a research paper, and so on. This is obviously distracting which more often than not makes users not want to update. Microsoft knows this and in the future, they are hoping to make Windows 10 updates smarter.

According to Microsoft, “We trained a predictive model that can accurately predict when the right time to restart the device is. Meaning, that we will not only check if you are currently using your device before we restart, but we will also try to predict if you had just left the device to grab a cup of coffee and return shortly after.”

The company is claiming to be seeing “promising results” but also point out that due to its architecture, they are able to update their model with minimal turnaround time, meaning that Microsoft can easily make changes on the fly with minimal user input (if at all). Only time will tell if these changes are an improvement, but we like where Microsoft’s head is at.
