New Amazon Echo Dot Seen In Leaked Images

Amazon’s cheapest Alexa device is the Echo Dot that it last updated back in September 2016. It hasn’t released a successor since then but it appears that the company might do that this year. Images have surfaced online of a device that’s claimed to be the new Amazon Echo Dot and they show that the company has made considerable changes to the device.

The images show that Amazon has made noticeable changes to the design of the Echo Dot. The third-generation of this product may not have the glossy black plastic and flat top of the existing models.

It seems to have a softer and more rounded design. It appears to have fabric running around the side as well which makes it appear somewhat similar to the Google Home Mini. The four physical buttons at the top are there where one would expect them on an Echo Dot and so is the round LED that’s a signature design element of Amazon’s Echo devices.

Amazon often announces new Echo devices in September so it’s possible that this new device may be launched in a little over a month. Amazon hasn’t said anything about a new Echo Dot at this point in time so it’s difficult to claim right now whether or not the company will be raising the price of this product as well.

Cryptocurrency Mining Apps Banned From Google Play Store

Google routinely updates its developer policies for the Google Play Store to ensure that apps that may negatively impact the user experience or be harmful for the community in any way are not allowed on the distribution platform. The company has reportedly updated its developer policies for the Play Store once again and this time it has decided to ban cryptocurrency mining apps.

Per the report, several more categories of apps have been banned from the Google Play Store. They include apps that have disruptive ads in addition to those that are meant for mining cryptocurrencies.

Google has made an important distinction in its policies. Apps that mine cryptocurrencies are prohibited but apps that allow users to “remotely manage the mining of cryptocurrency” are allowed.

The stance is similar to Apple’s which also banned cryptocurrency mining apps from the App Store. However, it does allow apps that “mine outside of the device, like cloud-based mining.”

The updated developer policies state that apps that deal with firearms and associated accessories are prohibited as well. Those apps that facilitate the sale of explosives, firearms, ammunition, or certain firearms accessories” are banned as well. The ban also extends to apps that provide users with instructions on manufacturing explosives, ammunition, firearms, and other weapons.
