Alexa Cast brings a long-awaited feature to Amazon Music

Amazon has announced that Amazon Music is getting Alexa Cast compatibility, bringing it one step closer to being a fully-fledged competitor to Spotify. Casting, of course, is not a new concept, but the Amazon Music app has been strangely missing that kind of functionality up until now. That all changes today, as you can now cast music from your phone … Continue reading

Dropbox Add-On For Gmail Now Available

Cloud storage is a great way for users to keep their files synced and available across multiple devices, such as phones, computers, tablets, and more. It makes accessing them easier if you switch between devices frequently. Now for those who use Gmail, you might be interested to learn about a new partnership between Google and Dropbox.

This has resulted in a new Dropbox add-on for Gmail where according to Dropbox, “With the Dropbox add-on for Gmail, you’ll be able to view, store, and share any file—from the smallest doc to the largest video—without leaving your inbox. This integration deepens our investment in the G Suite ecosystem, offering a cross-browser, cross-platform addition to our existing Dropbox for Gmail extension for Chrome.”

This also means that anyone can access the shared file or folder from your Dropbox without the need to install special software. It also reduces the need for users to hop between apps, which according to Dropbox eliminates distractions. The add-on will also allow users to centralize everything so that users can save files from their email directly to Dropbox, thus keeping files and folders synced immediately.

For those who think that this add-on might be of use to them, it is available via the G Suite Marketplace so head on over if you’d like to add it to your Gmail.

Dark Mode For Outlook.com Is Now Live

Earlier this month, the folks at Microsoft teased that a dark mode would be arriving onto Outlook.com. The good news is that if this is a feature that you’ve been anticipating, it looks like the feature is now available, according to a post on Microsoft’s website where they have announced that the feature is live for users.

Dark mode is a feature that isn’t exactly new, but it is a feature that we’re starting to see being incorporated into apps and websites in recent times. In case it wasn’t already obvious, dark mode basically gives the app/website a dark look which might be more soothing on the eyes when you’re using your computer in low-light situations.

Since having a stark white background in a dark room can be rather glaring, dark mode is meant to counter that. Microsoft also made it clear that dark mode is not a theme, but rather a setting that in the future could be applied to other themes. However for now, dark mode will only work with the blue theme.

Also note that this is for users of the Outlook.com experience (not to be confused with the Outlook app) and according to Microsoft, if it doesn’t work you might want to consider using the Microsoft Edge browser instead.

Watch Party On Facebook Lets You Watch Videos With Your Friends

In addition to being one of the biggest online platforms hosting user-submitted videos, Facebook has recently been making a major push into the online video streaming space. The company has thus introduced a new feature called Watch Party on Facebook which will enable users to watch Facebook videos with their friends simultaneously.

Watch Party is going to sync their streams so that the user’s friends can react and comment while they add videos to the watch queue. The playback will also be controlled by the “host” of the Watch Party, multiple people can host it as well.

Attendees will be able to suggest videos for the queue but they will not be able to add them. A Watch Party can only be started in a Group right now and not on Pages. The videos have to be hosted on Facebook for the feature to function, they can be pre-recorded or Live videos as well.

Facebook has actually been testing this feature since January 2018 and it’s now rolling it out widely to more users. This looks like a feature that would be better suited to the likes of Netflix but for some reason, the online video streaming behemoth chooses not to offer subscribers a way to watch synchronized content with their friends who also subscribe to Netflix.
