Production Of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Has Been Put On Hold

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was expected to enter production in January 2019 with a release pegged for 2020. However according to a report from the Hollywood Reporter, it appears that production of the movie has been put on hold as presumably Disney and Marvel are now seeking a new director.

For those unfamiliar with what has transpired in the past month or so, the movie’s original director (who also directed the first two movies) James Gunn was fired over tweets that he made over a decade ago. The tweets were deemed as offensive which led to Disney letting the director go, despite there being many who petitioned for Gunn to stay, including the stars of the movie who got together and penned a letter asking for him to be reinstated.

It seems that Disney has no plans on reversing their decision, which is why it’s not surprising that production has been put on hold while a new director is being sought out. It is unclear if this could mean that the movie could miss its target 2020 release date, but presumably if they find someone soon, perhaps things could still be on track.

Interestingly enough despite Gunn having been fired, it seems that Gunn’s script for the movie will still be used. This means that while Gunn won’t be behind the camera, at least some of the writing magic that made the first and second Guardians of the Galaxy movies so successful will be brought over into the third. Previously actor Dave Bautista who portrays Drax in the movie had stated that he would quit the movie if Gunn’s script wasn’t used.

Dongles Are Best Buy’s Most Popular Apple Products

Apple’s decision to kill off the 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone was a controversial one. The company also made waves when they launched their new MacBooks which completely did away with USB-A ports, instead only leaving behind USB-C ports. What this meant is that newer Apple customers were forced to resort to dongles and USB hubs.

Unsurprisingly and perhaps embarrassingly enough, it turns out that dongles were one of the most popular Apple products that have been sold by Best Buy in recent times. This is according to a report from Ceros (via AppleInsider) in which together with the AirPods headphones, dongles have seen an increase in purchases over the past two years.

It has been something of a running joke amongst Apple users at the amount of dongles required just to connect existing peripherals to their laptops and iPhone. We expect that these are just part of the growing pains that one would expect when it comes to adopting new technology and standards, although we’re sure that many would have preferred if Apple had at least kept some USB-A ports around to make the transition smoother.

That being said, a recent rumor has suggested that Apple may no longer bundle the 3.5mm headphone jack adapter with its upcoming iPhones, which means that either you’ll have to buy it yourself, or seek out a pair of Lightning-enabled headphones, or maybe the Bluetooth wireless AirPods could be worth considering.

Future iPhone Displays Could Be More Battery-Friendly

The displays on our smartphones are one of the bigger culprits when it comes to draining battery life. However with more manufacturers transitioning to the use of OLEDs which require less energy due to the fact that it does not use backlighting, we’re seeing an improvement on that front. However it appears that Apple might have plans to take it one step further.

In a report from IHS Markit (via BGR), it seems that the company believes that Apple could be making the move to change from low-temperature polysilicon thin-film transistor (LTPS TFT), commonly used in AMOLED panel production, to low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) backplanes, which in theory could reduce power consumption between 5-15%.

The publication’s author David Hsieh also points out how this is evidenced by Apple actually having three patents that are related to the technology. As to why is Apple potentially going about this on their own instead of working with companies such as Samsung or LG, IHS mentions a couple of reasons why.

For starters it would allow Apple to be more closely involved in the cost of components and technology, it would also give them more control (something that Apple is known to favor) over its supply chain and manufacturers, and they could also use the technology to better cater to their own products.

That being said it is unclear as to when we might see Apple start implementing this technology into their products, but there are technological challenges that Apple needs to overcome first before the tech can even be mass produced, so don’t hold your breath just yet.
