macOS Mojave Will Drop Support For ‘Back To My Mac’ Feature

Back in 2007 with the launch of Mac OS X Leopard, Apple introduced a “Back to My Mac” feature which basically allowed users to access files stored on one computer from another, which in a way acted like a roundabout way of cloud storage. Given how dated the feature is, unsurprisingly Apple has decided to retire the feature in macOS Mojave.

In a support document on Apple’s website (via Cult of Mac), Apple has started to inform users that the feature will no longer be supported in the next update to macOS, or rather the feature will not be there at all which means that for those who are still using it, it’s time to start looking at alternatives. Apple has since recommended users some alternative services, such as iCloud Drive that more or less does the same thing, as long the files are stored on iCloud.

However for those who want to do more than just access files, Apple is also recommending features like screen sharing (check out Apple’s guide on how to set it up), or maybe even Apple Remote Desktop which will cost customers $80 to purchase the app. The latter option will be for more those who want more complete access to other Mac computers, like accessing a work computer from home, and vice versa.

However if you’re just looking for simple file access, iCloud Drive is an option. Google Drive (or Google One) is also an alternative, or Dropbox, all of which feature the ability integrate into macOS for quick and easy access.

A Bunch Of Apple Watch Bands Have Been Discontinued

It is widely expected that Apple will be announcing a new Apple Watch in the coming months, possibly during the iPhone event which is rumored to take place in September. Perhaps in anticipation of the announcement, it appears that a bunch of Apple Watch bands have since been removed from Apple’s website, while a bunch of others have been marked as sold out.

This was spotted by Redditor ScaniaCB80 (via MacRumors) who noticed the changed. Now since Apple has been known to introduce new bands seasonally, it is possible that the company could simply be preparing for a refresh of the bands, which might not necessarily be an indication of a new Apple Watch.

However its timing does seem to be a coincidence especially when you consider that the speculators are claiming that the device could be announced in the second week of September. Plus in the past we have seen how product shortages or unavailability on Apple’s website can lead to a new product announcement or refresh.

The Apple Watch Series 4 is rumored to pack a slightly larger display, but whether or not this will affect the size of the lugs and whether existing bands will continue to be compatible with it remains to be seen. Either way check back with us in the coming weeks for more updates.

Apple’s Self-Driving Cars Will Offer Countdown Before Taking Action

One of the problems that some have noticed with self-driving cars is that the actions taken by the car can sometimes be abrupt, such as turns, changing lanes, and so on, which can lead to passengers feeling sick or even uncomfortable. However it seems that Apple might have an answer to that problem, which is letting passengers know in advance.

In a recently discovered patent (via AppleInsider), Apple proposes a system that offers a countdown timer before the car takes an action. This means that when the car wants to change lanes or make a turn, a countdown timer will appear to let users know ahead of time what it plans to do, which then lets passengers mentally prepare themselves.

The patent mentions how human drivers often provide cues on what they plan to do, for example they might check their rear or side-view mirrors before changing lanes. This is versus autonomous systems which obviously can’t offer up similar cues. However this isn’t just only for passengers because it could be used to inform drivers in other vehicles of what the car plans to do, although exactly how they plan to do that remains to be seen, but it has been suggested that a projection system that illuminates the road could be one of them.

This isn’t the first time Apple has explored the idea of making self-driving cars feel more comfortable for its occupants. Last month a patent revealed how a self-driving car could use sensors to detect the stress levels of passengers and adapt its driving style to make passengers feel more at ease.
