Real Life Homer Simpson: The D’oh of Your Nightmares

Last summer, artist Miguel Vasquez created some images that show what Spongebob and Patrick would look like in real life. The renderings were the stuff of nightmares. Now, Vasquez is back with a rendering of what Homer Simpson would look like if you ran into him on the street.

Homie is terrifying to look at with his bug eyes and giant mouth. He looks like he should come out of the sink in the next Stephen King horror flick to choke you while screaming “YOU LITTLE!”. Creepy as real Homer may be, the illustrations are fantastic, and this dude has some serious talent.

And no matter how disturbing this is, Homer certainly is easier on the eyes than real-life Patrick Star was. I’m fairly sure I saw Patrick in the cages under the cabin in The Cabin in the Woods.

Gmail For Android Gets Undo Sent Email Feature

Sometimes in a hurry to send out emails, we accidentally leave out certain details. Or sometimes in a rush we forget to add people to emails, or we send emails to the wrong person, which can sometimes be embarrassing and disastrous. However on desktop, especially if you use Gmail, you can unsend them.

The good news is that if you use Gmail on your Android phone as well, you’ll be pleased to learn that Gmail for Android is now getting the same undo sent email feature as well. The version for Android works pretty much the same way as the desktop version, where upon sending an email, users will have a few seconds in which they can select “undo”, in which the email will then be recalled.

Despite the fact that the feature was available on Gmail for the desktop for a while now, it is actually surprising that it took Google this long to bring it onto its mobile app, but better late than never, we suppose. This will require users to update their app to version 8.7, but according to Android Police’s testing, it seems that it appears only every now and then, which means it is not as reliable yet, so maybe try not to rely on it too much for now until Google gets a handle of things, although your mileage may vary.

No word on when the iOS version of Gmail will get that feature, but given that the iOS and Android versions of Gmail tend to share the same features, we suppose it is only a matter of time.

HTC Vive Wireless Adapter Will Cost $300

The problem with virtual reality (VR) headsets like the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive is that they require to be tethered to a computer. This means that in terms of motion, users can end up feeling a bit restricted. Last year HTC and Intel unveiled a wireless prototype which would allow existing HTC Vive headsets to go wireless.

The good news is that if this was something you were looking forward to, HTC has since announced that its wireless adapter will be up for pre-order starting on the 5th of September, and will be released on the 24th of September. However the bad news is its price in which HTC is asking for $300.

Given that the HTC Vive isn’t exactly the cheapest VR headset around, tacking an additional $300 to give it wireless capabilities might be a bitter pill for some to swallow. The upside is that according to HTC, the wireless adapter is easy to install and will take minutes, where all users need to do is install a PCI-e card, attach a sensor to their PC, and they’ll be good to go.

According to Daniel O’Brien, GM Americas, HTC Vive, “Since the first demos of Vive, we’ve known that to deliver on the best of premium VR, we wanted it to be wireless. But we learned that delivering a great wireless experience takes time and really smart partners. We’ve brought the engineering expertise together to deliver a truly first of its kind wireless VR experience. Thanks to Intel and DisplayLink for helping to make this vision a reality.”

Google & IMAX’s VR Camera Project Has Reportedly Been Cancelled

Back in 2016, Google and IMAX announced a partnership which could have resulted in the development of a VR camera that would allow for movie-grade video capture. Unfortunately it appears that the development on the camera might have been cancelled, according to a report from Variety.

The report claims that the camera has been cancelled, although Google has declined to comment while an IMAX spokesperson says that it has not been cancelled, but rather it has been “paused”. The rep said, “We’ve currently paused the development of the Imax VR camera while we continue to review the viability of our pilot program.”

However as Variety notes, this is not what their sources have told them in which the project has actually been cancelled, and that the decision to cancel the project was made by Google. In fact it isn’t even a recent development because their source told them it was actually last year that Google made that decision.

Apparently this is due to a shift in focus where Google wanted to focus more on augmented reality instead of VR. We’re not sure what kind of device would have resulted from this partnership, but we guess we’ll never know. In the meantime it’s not surprising that there is a shift in focus towards AR tech. Games like Pokemon GO have clearly demonstrated that there is a huge market for AR, not to mention that Google’s competitor Apple is also heavily invested in AR.
