Tesla Cars Will Eventually Be Able To Play Video

Tesla cars have giant touchscreen displays as infotainment systems. The screen sizes are perfect for watching video but it hasn’t been possible to do that currently. It’s obviously not safe to do that when you’re behind the wheel but the company could allow users to watch video on the infotainment displays when the car isn’t moving. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed that the cars will eventually be able to do that.

Tesla owners have long expressed their wish to have video playback functionality on the display when the car isn’t moving. Tesla CEO Elon Musk was asked about the feature on Twitter and whether the company has any plans of offering it.

Musk responded that “version 10” of the Tesla’s car software is going to add the ability to watch video when the car isn’t moving. He didn’t mention which video services will be available to stream and when this update is actually going to be released. The company previously confirmed that it’s going to add Atari games with version 9 of the update which is expected to be released later this month.

Whenever this update does arrive, the feature will likely be accompanied by strict restrictions, so being able to stream Netflix inside the car while it’s on Autopilot would be out of the question. The feature would serve users well during Supercharger stops or when they’re just killing time in their car that’s firmly in Park.
