Monster Hunter: World Sales Cross 10 Million Units

Capcom has revealed at Gamescom 2018 that Monster Hunter: World sales have crossed a major milestone. The title has sold more than 10 million copies. The figure includes both digital sales and physical copies sold through stores. These figures make Monster Hunter: World the best-selling game since Capcom’s first release in 1984.

The PC launch of the title aided Capcom in achieving this milestone. Monster Hunter: World was released on the PC through Steam on August 9th. It quickly became the biggest new title launch of this year on Steam. Monster Hunter: World also happens to be the most successful Japanese game in the history of Steam.

The Monster Hunter series has sold more than 50 million units combined. The first title in this franchise was released back in 2004. The games were largely limited to portable gaming devices like the Nintendo 3DS and PSP for years. The series was well regarded in Japan but didn’t see similar success in other markets.

That has been changed with Monter Hunter: World. Capcom developed this title for home consoles and leveraged the power of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to create a more powerful game. That’s what was needed to make this title a hit in markets other than Japan.

It hasn’t even been a month since Monster Hunter: World was made available for PC so it’s possible that this figure could climb higher in the months to come.
