Blizzard To Reveal New Overwatch Content At Gamescom 2018

Gamescom 2018 will be kicking off in the next couple of days, and at the event we expect that there will be a bunch of new announcements and showcases from various developers and publishers. In fact Blizzard themselves are expected to make several announcements, such as new Overwatch content.

The company has recently confirmed their schedule for Gamescom 2018 where they will be hosting an Overwatch presentation, in which during the 30 minute presentation, the company is expected to reveal new content that will be coming to the game. Given that the company had previously revealed Overwatch’s latest hero, we have to wonder what else they might announce.

It is possible that we could be looking at new maps and game modes, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Other announcements that Blizzard will be making will cover games such as StarCraft, World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm, and Diablo (where Blizzard had earlier confirmed that they had multiple Diablo projects in the works).

We’re not sure if all these announcements will feature new content or if Blizzard will simply update gamers on the state of things so far. We also imagine that Blizzard will probably want to save some announcements for BlizzCon 2018 which will kick off in November, but either way check back with us in the coming days for updates.

Facebook Vigilantes, Ugly Laptops, and Red Tide: Best Gizmodo Stories of the Week

Read anything interesting in the news lately? No, really. I’m still catching up, because for much of the past week, I was vacationing in lovely Cook Forest, Pennsylvania, during which my access to the internet was limited to whatever stretches of 4G could be obtained amid supply runs to town. This was indeed lovely—an…

iPad battery almost exploded in Amsterdam Apple Store

Although it may have tried to ignore its existence in a recent retrospective, the Galaxy Note 7 will forever remain Samsung’s biggest mobile embarrassment. That’s not to say, however, that it is the only one with a case of exploding devices. Even iPhones and iPads are not immune, though often less scandalous or less frequent. In one case in Amsterdam, … Continue reading

Sony’s God Of War Was Almost Set In Ancient Egypt

Sony’s God of War franchise started out based largely on Greek mythology, but when Sony announced a new installment in the franchise, they not only shook up the way the game was played with the introduction of Kratos’ son, but they also changed its settings where it was now based on Norse mythology.

However as it turns out there was a good chance that it could have almost been based in ancient Egypt. This is according to a report from Gamesource (via DualShockers) in which during Devcom 2018, God of War Director Cory Barlog revealed during a presentation at the event that there were many location ideas tossed up during the early development stages.

According to Balrog, in addition to Norse mythology, there were suggestions for Inca, Egyptian, and Hindu based mythology settings. This was eventually whittled down where it was then a toss up between Norse mythology and Egyptian mythology, in which ultimately Balrog was the one who swayed the way in favor of Norse.

In one of the concept artworks for the game during its early stages, it showed Kratos and his son in an Egyptian setting, where in the image above you can see a Sphinx along with what appears to be a pyramid in the background.

Rumor Claims 4K Nintendo Switch Could Launch In 2019

While the Nintendo Switch is enjoying a lot of success since its launch, it’s hard to ignore that it is underpowered when compared to consoles like the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, both of which allow gamers to enjoy games played in 4K. Of course resolution is just one part of what makes games great, but we’re sure that Nintendo gamers would have liked to futureproof their purchases.

There is some good news on that front because according to “industry insider” Marcus Sellars via a series of deleted tweets (via Game Rant), apparently Nintendo could be launching a 4K Switch console in 2019. The tweet claims that the console will feature 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and “dynamic scaling” that will let it scale up games to 4K resolution.

Sounds good, doesn’t it? It should be taken with a grain of salt for now because as Game Rant notes, Sellars has a mixed track record when it comes to leaks and rumors. He has in the past accurately leaked information, but has also had some misses where earlier this year he claimed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 would be making its way onto the Switch.

That being said, we wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo were to refresh the console after a few years to help keep gamers interested as they have done with their handheld consoles, but whether or not that will happen in 2019 and whether or not that refresh will have 4K support remains to be seen.
