Google Retail Store Possibly Opening Up In Chicago

Google isn’t like Apple in that it doesn’t have a retail presence at home and abroad. However, it appears that the company is finally thinking about testing the retail waters. According to a new report, a Google retail store is being planned for Chicago which would be its first permanent retail store if it gets built.

According to The Chicago Tribune, this two-floor store in Chicago’s Fulton Market would span 14,000 square feet across interconnected brick buildings. The store would be located a few blocks south of Google’s Midwest HQ. Google declined to comment when approached by the scribe and hasn’t said anything about opening up a store in Chicago.

Up until a few years ago, Google didn’t have a growing list of hardware products but that has since changed. It’s not just making high-end smartphones now, Google makes a variety of other products including but not limited to premium Chromebooks, smart speakers, and more.

Google’s earlier retail experiences have largely been limited to pop-up stores in markets like the United States and the United Kingdom. A proper retail store would give Google the opportunity to reach more potential customers. Whether or not the company would be willing to expand it into a proper retail network which spans the globe remains to be seen.

OnePlus 6T Said To Launch With T-Mobile In October

OnePlus has been selling its smartphones in the United States for a few years now but it has never had a carrier partner. Customers could buy its devices online and use it with their carrier of choice. They couldn’t purchase it from a carrier like T-Mobile or AT&T. The company had said that it would work to ink partnerships with carriers in the United States. A new report states that the OnePlus 6T will launch on T-Mobile this October in what will be the company’s first U.S. carrier deal.

Citing people familiar with the launch plans, CNET reports that T-Mobile is going to be the exclusive U.S. carrier partner for the OnePlus 6T which it launches this October. There will be a specific version of the OnePlus 6T optimized for T-Mobile’s network.

This deal doesn’t mean that OnePlus won’t sell its standard global version which is unlocked and capable of working on AT&T or T-Mobile in addition to overseas networks. The OnePlus 6T price has tentatively been set at $550 but hasn’t been finalized as yet.

The report doesn’t mention anything about the changes that the OnePlus 6T will bring to the table. It’s going to be a slightly improved iteration of the OnePlus 6 that was launched earlier this year. OnePlus hasn’t commented on the matter as yet.
