Lenovo Yoga Book C930 Has E-ink Secondary Display

When Lenovo introduced the original Yoga Book, it was, and remains, a uniquely innovative design that made possible having an ultra-thin form-factor for Android and Windows tablet. One of the first request people had was for a programmable virtual keyboard. Guess what, Lenovo delivered.

The high-end version of the 2018 Yoga Book is the Yoga Book C930 which was rumored back in June and confirmed shortly after that by Lenovo itself. On the outside, the Yoga Book C930 resembles the original one, with the same color and the same watch-bracelet hinge Lenovo came up with.

If you notice that it is larger, it’s because it is! Lenovo has gone from a 10.1” to a 10.8” display. One of the motivations for this change was so the keyboard could be a bit wider and more comfortable.

Interestingly, Lenovo made it so if you knock twice on the screen, The laptop will open slightly, so it’s easier to open with one hand. Otherwise, you would have to use both hands to open it… thoughtful. Once you turn it on, the e-ink keyboard appears in all its glory.

“ONCE YOU TURN IT ON, THE E-INK KEYBOARD APPEARS IN ALL ITS GLORY”

The original Yoga Book had a static keyboard which was “printed” and could not be modified. The key-less keyboard is the primary reason why the computer was so thin, so it had to stay. Using E-ink has many advantages as it is a flat surface, and it can be completely programmable (any language), not only as a keyboard but also as a secondary screen for interfaces and… reading eBooks!

When you type, the keys can animate to confirm the input, and of course, you can open the Yoga Book in tablet mode when reading. The E-ink display is much more power-efficient than the LCD screen, and actually very agreeable to read text on. That has been proved in the past.

Finally, the note-taking is still there with the Yoga Book, except that Lenovo has now made it possible to take notes on the E-ink surface, or on the color display. This was a much-requested feature that has also come true. Notes can be saved as images, or copied as text, after being converted. By the way, the Wacom pen has 4096 pressure levels and is included.

We might wrap it up, but there’s one last improvement that is absolutely impactful: the CPU was upgraded from an Intel Atom X5 processor to a maximum of a Core i5-Y754 (4.5W TDP)! The differential in performance is nearly 3X in a test like Geekbench Single-Thread, so we can’t estimate the performance, but this is a significant update that is impressive for such a thin design.

To wrap it up, the Yoga Book C930 is a massive update upon last year’s first model. With key pieces of feedback having been integrated, it will be interesting to see how the public will receive it. Stay tuned for our review of this innovative product, and you can follow Ubergizmo on Google News if you don’t want to miss it.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme 15.6 Laptop With NVIDIA GPU

Lenovo has just launched the new ThinkPad X1 Extreme, the first in the X1 Series to feature an NVIDIA discrete graphics chip. As thin and light laptops start to increase their graphics computing capabilities, Lenovo is pushing the performance.

Extreme X-Series specifications

This laptop has the best technical specifications of the X1 Series, hence, the “extreme” name. The X1 Extreme is a 15.6-inch computer that comes with a UHD 4K display, Dolby Atmos audio, and a 4GB GeForce 1050Ti MaxQ Edition graphics chip.

Of course, it can be configured with a Gen8 Core i7 (+vPro) although the exact CPU SKU has not been revealed yet. Starting from December 2018, a Core i9 version will be available.

The GeForce 1050Ti MaxQ is older than the GeForce MX150 found in some thin and light laptop, but its raw performance is a bit higher (+120% according to some benchmarks). You can definitely play with this laptop, and we’re looking forward to seeing what kind of speed/Lbs it will score in our Ubergizmo lab tests.

“THE HIGHEST CONFIGURATION OF THE X1 EXTREME WILL BE A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH”

Users can order it with a maximum of 64GB of RAM (2x DIMM) and 2x1TB of PCIe SSD which can be installed as a Raid 0 array for bandwidth aggregation. The highest configuration of the X1 Extreme will be a force to be reckoned with.

The 80 Whr battery capacity is the highest among the ThinkPad X-Series and will be incredibly appealing, especially as the NVIDIA GPU should not be in use when no GPU demanding application is running.

In addition to having a massive battery, Lenovo has included its Quick-Charge technology, which scores some of the fastest charging speeds in our reviews, with speeds of 0.9Wh per minute, as seen in the Lenovo T480S.

ThinkPad X design

From a design perspective, Lenovo has kept close to its successful X-Series design that is sturdy and well-liked in business circles. The laptop’s dimensions are 361.8 x 245.7 x 18.7 (touch display) for 4.04 Lbs.

The non-touch model is a bit lighter at 3.75 Lbs, which is excellent for such a powerful 15.6 laptop. In fact, it looks very similar to the recently announced ThinkPad P1 workstation.

The display features a webcam at the top with a physical privacy shutter called ThinkShutter, but the UHD/4K HDR-certified panel is the star of the show.

At 400 NITs and 100% of the Adobe RGB gamut, it is not as bright as the 500-Nit HDR display of the Carbon X1, perhaps because of its size, but movies and games should look great. If you want to save a bit of money, there’s an FHD/300 Nit option as well.

The support for Dolby Atmos should also be a vast improvement over the current audio performance of the X-Series. Designed for business purposes (vs. Multimedia), this series featured “decent but not great” audio.

This might change drastically with the arrival of this Extreme X Series. We’ll have to put it to the test later. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme will start at $1859.99.

Marshall Launches Two Alexa-Powered Smart Speakers

Marshall has announced the launch of two new smart speakers at IFA 2018 in Berlin today. Both feature the familiar Marshall design language and Amazon Alexa support. The two models include the Acton II and the Stanmore II, the latter being larger and more powerful. With Alexa onboard, the smart speakers are capable of performing a wide variety of tasks, basically everything that you would expect from an Alexa-enabled device.

Marshall hasn’t revealed a lot of details about the new Alexa-enabled speakers at this point in time. Their predecessors featured Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support so that’s likely onboard as well in addition to multiroom and Chromecast compatibility. That’s standard fare from a smart speaker these days.

Aside from the signature look that we have come to expect from Marshall’s audio products, these speakers also feature custom drivers and class D amps for an enhanced sound experience. Marshall confirmed today the pricing and release information for the two new speakers.

The Acton II is going to cost $299 while the larger and more powerful Stanmore II will cost $399. Pre-orders for the Acton II start on October 2nd with availability on November 9th while the Stanmore II is available for pre-order today and will be delivered to customers on October 2nd.

This Life-size LEGO Bugatti Chiron Looks Incredible, and Really Can Drive

Recently LEGO Technic released a scale model of the Bugatti Chiron, and I thought that was pretty darned impressive in its own right. But now, a team of ingenious and talented designers and engineers have gone above the call of duty, creating a full-size replica of the Chiron, made almost entirely from LEGO Technic parts. Oh, and it actually holds a full-size human and can be driven.

It took the team at LEGO Technic’s Kladno factory in the Czech Republic over 13,000 hours to design and build this incredible vehicle. Over 1 million individual LEGO components went into the build, including over 2,300 individual LEGO Power Functions motors, ganged together to produce enough power to move this 3,300 pound replica. Incredibly, no glue was used to hold the parts together either, a rarity even for large-scale static LEGO models, let alone one that can be driven.

It tops out at just 12 mph, and its motors generate a total of 5.3 horsepower, a far cry from the 1,479 horses that an actual Chiron makes, but I don’t care. This thing is simply amazing on every level. Just look at this thing. It lives at the perfect intersection of three of my favorite things – cars, technology, and toys.

Every detail is impeccable, from the clusters of LED headlamps, wrapped in new transparent Technic bricks, to the retractable rear spoiler out back. LEGO, you have truly outdone yourselves with this build.

Now check out the LEGO Chiron in action in the video below, as it takes its inaugural ride with championship race driver Andy Wallace behind the wheel. Then take a gander at the gallery below for some behind-the-scenes photos of the car’s construction.

The trailers for the game show off a 3D world with chibi-style characters, real-time combat and some monstrous hero transformations.

The New Lenovo Yoga Book's Second E-Ink Display Is a Refreshingly Neat Idea

You wanted to love the original Lenovo Yoga Book. It had a pretty display, and its keyboard doubled as a pad for pen input, which besides just being neat also allowed it to be one of the thinnest laptops available at .38 inches. Plus, it cost just $500. But the original Yoga Book was profoundly flawed and not a good…

Threezero Tyrion Lannister Action Figure Drinks and Knows Things

Of all the families in the Game of Thrones realm, the Lannisters are the most screwed up. They have the money, power, and more dysfunction of any three other families combined. One of them broke free of the madness to some extent, and that’s Tyrion – who, like many of you, I’m sure – is my favorite of the clan.

The Imp may be rather small in stature but he’s big in his ability to consume wine and solve problems. After all, he drinks and knows things, that is what he does. Fans of Tyrion Lannister will want to check out this action figure based on his looks in season 7 of the series.

Standing 8-3/4″ tall, Threezero’s 1/6th-scale figure features a fantastic head sculpt of actor Peter Dinklage, and comes with a Hand of the Queen pin and a shiny silver pitcher and goblet for drinking. He also comes with different hands with one that allows him to hold said goblet and another for holding the pitcher.

There’s also a Deluxe Edition which includes a series of bonus accessories – a set of 9 pieces from his war strategy planning map.

Being a high-end collectible, it’s not cheap with the standard version going for $177.99, and the deluxe version going for just $20 more. If you’ve got the gold to spare, you can pre-order now at Entertainment Earth for June 2019 delivery.
