The other thanks to a leaked render, a certain Moto P30 handset was revealed to be the company’s upcoming smartphone. It turns out the leaks were right on the money because over in China, the Moto P30 has been officially launched with a design that seems to be causing some mixed feelings.
While there is nothing wrong with the design itself, it’s hard to ignore the fact that the Moto P30 seems to be a cross between the iPhone X and Huawei’s P20 (especially with that color design). The notch seems to have been designed to look like the iPhone X, along with the orientation of the rear-facing dual cameras. However there is quite a massive lip at the bottom of the phone where the Motorola branding is placed.
Apart from that, at a glance you could be mistaken for thinking it was either the iPhone X or the Huawei P20. Similarities aside, the Moto P30 is a decently-specced mid-ranged handset. We’re looking at a 6.2-inch FHD+ display with Gorilla Glass, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a microSD card slot.
There will also be a 16MP + 5MP rear-facing camera setup, a 12MP front-facing camera, and will come with a 3,000mAh battery with Android 8.1 Oreo running the show. The phone seems to be exclusive to China at the moment where it is priced starting at $305.

Recently Microsoft announced a couple of new Xbox One controllers, but if those controllers weren’t really your style and you were after something more modular and customizable like the Xbox Elite Controller that was announced about 3 years ago, you’ll be pleased to learn that we could be close to its launch.
This is according to a tweet by The Verge’s Tom Warren who claims that a Microsoft Xbox controller codenamed “Washburn” will be launching in October. Warren did not explicitly mention the Xbox Elite Controller, but given that Washburn’s rumored price tag is $150, which is the same price as the current model, it stands to believe that it could be the next-gen Elite Controller.
Xbox codename Washburn. It’s a $149 Xbox controller that will ship in October…

In fact this is actually not the first time that we are hearing about a new Elite Controller. Earlier this year there was a rumor that Microsoft was working on a successor, and alleged images of the device were leaked online, although how accurate those leaks are is anyone’s guess. However given how successful the first-gen controllers were, we doubt that Microsoft would be sitting on their hands and not do anything to capitalize on it.
In any case if the tweet is accurate, we should have the official details in the coming months, so if you don’t need a new controller anytime soon, maybe holding off and waiting could be a good idea.

A lot of us take our sight for granted, something that we’re sure many who lose their sight later in life can attest to. However thanks to technology, the visually impaired no longer have to be “blind”. One such app that is helping people who are visually impaired is Envision. The app relies on AI to help read and analyze its surroundings, and tells the user what it sees.
The problem with your typical object recognition technology is that it does not understand context. However with the use of AI, Envision’s app will be able to understand scenes and the environment, thus better relaying that information to the user. According to the app’s description, “Envision enables people with visual impairment to live more independently. With Envision, visually impaired users can shop in supermarkets, use public transport, read menu cards in restaurants, recognise their friends, find their belongings and so much more, all on their own.”
“Envision can process an image an extract the information user is looking for. It can read texts from any surface accurately and quickly.” Note that Envision had actually previously been launched for iOS, but now it looks like it has found its way onto Android. As Android Police notes, the iOS version came with in-app subscriptions which the Android version seems to be lacking, at least for now.
That being said, Envision is definitely not the first of its kind. Other companies such as Microsoft and Google have also worked on creating apps that help the blind “see” the world around them.
