HMD Confirms That All Nokia Phones Will Receive Android 9.0 Pie Update

The thing with Android phones is that the older they get, there is a lesser chance of them getting updated to the latest build of Android. This also applies to lower-end Android phones where companies might be more interested in catering to their flagship devices. Fortunately for Nokia users, they won’t need to worry about that.

In a tweet by the official Nokia Mobile account, it has been confirmed that the recently release Android 9.0 Pie update will be made available to all Nokia handsets. This includes the Nokia 3, 5, 6, and 8. However the company failed to mention when exactly the update will be rolled out, but the good news is that if you own any of these devices, you can look forward to it when it is available.

That being said a recent report revealed that the update had already begun rolling out to the Nokia 7 Plus. However it turns out that wasn’t necessarily the case, but rather it was the beta 4 for the Android Pie update, but it’s still an indication that the phone will receive the update eventually.

So far Google’s Pixel devices have been the first to receive the Android 9.0 Pie update, but that was quickly followed by Essential who rolled out the update to the Essential Phone on the same day. Other OEMs are working to bring the update to their devices, so keep an eye out for them if you’re not a Nokia user.

2018’s iPhones Will Come With Apple Pencil Support, 512GB Storage

For the most part the Apple Pencil is an accessory designed for the iPad, but over the years we have been hearing that Apple could be considering bringing support to the iPhone, and this year could be the year that we are seeing it, or at least that’s what the analysts at TrendForce (via CNET) are predicting.

According to the report, not only will the 2018 iPhones support the Apple Pencil, but the report is also claiming that Apple will be bumping up the storage on the iPhone to support a maximum of 512GB. If this sounds familiar, it is because Samsung has already done that with the Galaxy Note 9 which not only supports a stylus, but also launched with 512GB of storage.

Given that we’re seeing an increase in megapixels on our cameras and support for 4K video, it means that more storage is necessary and 512GB does seem like a safe bet. We’re not sure if this will be offered alongside the 256GB model which is currently the largest storage Apple offers, or if it will replace the 256GB model.

Also we have to wonder what this could mean for the base storage which is set at 64GB. Will Apple be bumping that up or will the 64GB base option be kept around? Either way take it with a grain of salt, but check back with us next month where Apple is expected to announce their new iPhones.

Google Acknowledges Quick Charger Issues With The Pixel XL

The other day after Google rolled out the Android 9.0 Pie update to their Pixel phones, it became apparent that there was an issue with it because Pixel XL owners started turning to the forums to complain about how their quick chargers stopped working. However the good news is that it looks like Google is aware of the issue and are working on it.

In a statement provided to Android Police, Google said, “We’re aware of an issue where non-Power Delivery (PD) USB-C chargers no longer rapidly charge the 2016 Pixel and Pixel XL after the upgrade to Android 9 Pie. The 18W rapid charger included in-box is a PD charger and does not exhibit this behavior. We are verifying a fix for non-PD USB-C chargers and will roll it out in the coming weeks.”

It is unclear as to what might have caused the problem, but it doesn’t seem to be brand-related as users are reporting issues with different brands of chargers. Also it appears that it does not appear to affect only the Pixel XL as there are 2016 Pixel owners who are also reporting that they have run into the problem themselves, but for the most part it appears that the majority of complaints are coming from Pixel XL owners.
