Microsoft Unveils A Couple Of New Xbox One Controllers

If you’re in the market for new Xbox One controllers, as luck would have it, it seems that Microsoft has a couple of new models for you. The company has recently taken the wraps off a couple of new models in the form of the Phantom Black Special Edition and Grey/Blue that you can see in the image above to the left and right respectively.

Starting with the Phantom Black Special Edition, according to Microsoft, “It was inspired by the idea of catching a glimpse inside. This controller is about mystery meeting luxury to reveal the technology within the controller. From top to bottom, this controller fades from a high-tech translucent matte black to a stunning metallic champagne gold.”

As for the Grey/Blue model, Microsoft has described it by saying, “Grey monochrome ABXY, menu, and navigation buttons reinforce the modern minimalist design. For a pop of color, there are eye-catching blue accents at the base of the thumbsticks and on the back of the controller.” Both controllers are wireless and will feature a 3.5mm headphone jack, along with Bluetooth support for gaming on devices like the Samsung Gear VR.

As for pricing, the Phantom Black model will be priced slightly higher at $70, while the Grey/Blue model will retail for $65. In terms of availability, the Phantom Black model will be sold in the US starting 11th of September, while the Grey/Blue model will be available on the 25th of September.

How NASA’s Parker Solar Probe Can Survive Inside the Corona of the Sun

The sun is a crazy hot place. Just step outside in any of the summer months in Texas and you know this is true. The other day we talked a bit about the NASA Parker Solar Probe and how it would eventually become the fastest man-made object ever. At the time, I wondered how the probe could fly so close to the surface of the sun and not melt. It turns out NASA has an explanation for that.

The probe will travel through the corona of the sun where temperatures are greater than a million degrees Fahrenheit. The first reason it won’t simply melt is the probe’s fancy custom heat shield. In addition, the probe is designed to automatically face its heat shield in the proper direction, and it also packs a radiator-based cooling system. In addition, the low density of the plasma in the solar corona means a relatively small amount of heat will transfer to the probe.

The heat shield’s material is a carbon composite foam sandwiched between carbon plates. It is covered with white ceramic paint and can withstand temperatures up to 3,000º F. The video below shows just a tiny bit of how heat resistant the carbon composite material is, as its heated with a blowtorch to around 200º F. It would be interesting to see how well it works at full temperature.

OPPO F9 brings the tiniest notch to the masses

Some manufacturers have wholeheartedly embraced the notch. Others, like Samsung, continue to ignore it. Still others have tried to come up with different ways to compromise. Like Vivo before it, OPPO played with an elevating mechanism in the Find X to mixed results, only to return to a notch. But this is no Apple notch in the OPPO F9. It … Continue reading

Uber Uses AI To Determine If Your Trips Are Personal Or Business

People use Uber for work trips and personal trips, and sometimes in the heat of the moment, we might accidentally expense a work trip to our own personal account, and a personal trip to our work accounts. This means that it can get messy trying to sort out all the receipts and what not, but Uber is here to help.

Uber has announced that they will be taking advantage of AI to help users manage their trip profiles more accurately. According to Uber, “Using machine learning, Uber can predict which profile – and corresponding payment method – an employee should be using, and make the appropriate recommendation. By analyzing billions of Uber trips each year at an aggregate level, Uber can detect patterns and trends that predict the purpose of a trip.”

Uber also notes that based on their early estimates, it seems that these profile suggestions are effective at least 80% of the time. In addition to using AI, Uber has also announced that they will be adding features like trip reviewers and an in-app trip resolution feature that lets users review their trips and also resolve any issues that they might have.

We should point out that these features are for Uber for Business, so if your company uses and relies on Uber for transportation, these new features should come in handy.
