While the “cloud” still lacks a formal, universally accepted definition, it has become a common term thrown around in both tech and media. Cloud storage has, in fact, become so common that there are already dozens of business competing in a once Dropbox-dominated market. It now has Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, and Box to contend with, among others. To widen … Continue reading
While there are some markets in which Apple dominates in, there are others in which the company is struggling. A good example would be in China in which according to recent data shared by Counterpoint Research, has revealed the extent in which the competition is besting Apple in the country.
According to the data, it appears that Apple’s market share in China is around 8%, which when you consider the market share of other companies, seems rather small. Based on Counterpoint’s analysis of the Chinese market, it looks like Huawei actually commands the lion’s share of the market at a whopping 40%.
This is followed by Xiaomi who commands 28%, and interestingly enough Apple comes in third at 8%. Other Chinese vendors such as Vivo and Oppo come in fourth and fifth at 7% and 6% respectively. However these top 5 brands do represent 84% of the market which is saying a lot, although there does not seem to be any mention of China.
According to research analyst Flora Tang, “E-commerce is now a key part of Apple’s channel strategy in China, contributing to almost a third of its total sales in China. Riding on the trend it was the third largest brand in terms of sales volume during the 618 festival. iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus surprisingly remained one of the popular and top selling models in China during Q2 2018.”

Apple’s AirPods come with a case of its own. This case has been designed to not only keep your AirPods in place so you don’t lose them (assuming you don’t lose the case), but they also keep your AirPods charged. Now if you’re the type that likes to keep your gadgets in pristine condition, then maybe a case for the case might be worth considering.
In fact the folks at Twelve South have recently unveiled the AirSnap which will be a leather case designed to house your AirPods. Note that this is actually a case for the AirPods’ case, meaning that essentially you will be getting double protection, except in a more stylish look. The AirSnap will also feature a small cutout at the bottom that will let users plug a Lightning cable to charge the case, meaning that you’ll essentially never have to take it out.
There is also a little clip at the top that lets users hook the AirSnap onto something, such as a backpack, bag, belt loop, and so on so that you’ll have quick access to your AirPods whenever you need them. The AirSnap will be offered in three different finishes from a classic brown, to a classic black, to a blue-ish finish. It is priced at $30 and is available directly from Twelve South.

Sometimes we can be forgetful, which is why there are instances in which you might have heard how sometimes parents put their toddlers or pets into the backseat of their cars, and when they reach their destination they can sometimes forget about it. This can be extremely dangerous but Nissan wants to solve that problem.
The company has announced a new feature called the Nissan Rear Door Alert (RDA) in which basically it reminds drivers to check their back seats whenever they get out of the car. How does this work? Basically when the car detects that you open the back door at the start of the trip (which assumes you might have put someone or something there) and that the back door is not opened at the end of the trip, it will alert the driver.
This will come in the form of a dashboard notification and also subtle chirps of the horn to let you know that you should check it, kind of like how there is a sound that lets you know when you’ve left your lights on. Developed by Nissan engineers Marlene Mendoza and Elsa Foley, the idea came about after a somewhat comical disaster involving lasagna that was accidentally left in the car’s back seat overnight.
According to Mendoza, “The idea was inspired when I accidentally left a pan of lasagna in the back seat of my car overnight. The worst thing was the car smelled for days, but it made me ask myself, ‘What if I left something far more important back there?’” Nissan’s RDA feature is expected to become a standard feature on all Nissan four-door vehicles by 2022, but in the meantime some of 2019’s models are expected to get the feature already.

It is usually thought that animated movies do well in cinemas and Disney/Pixar’s Incredibles 2 has proven that to be true. In a report from Deadline, it seems that the movie has managed to cross the $1 billion mark in terms of ticket sales around the world. This is an achievement in itself and it also represents the seventh animated movie to have crossed the $1 billion mark.
The Incredibles 2 movie has been a very, very long time coming and was released a good 14 years after the original. As Deadline notes, the movie still has yet to find its way to other major markets which means that there is still an opportunity for the movie to pull in even more money from those markets upon its release.
To date the film has made $574 million domestically and $430.9 million worldwide, bringing it to a total of $1.005 billion on Monday. In comparison, the original Incredibles managed to make $261 million domestically and $371 million internationally, with a total of $633 million worldwide. This means that its sequel has a chance of doubling what the original made.
Disney seems to be on a roll with their movies this year as the Incredibles 2 marks the third movie released by the company that has crossed the $1 billion threshold. The other two for 2018 alone include Marvel’s Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

One of the rumors for 2018’s iPhones is that Apple could be looking to introduce a larger 6.5-inch model. However it seems that the change won’t just be in its display size, but also some of its software functionality where due to its larger size, it could support iPad-like landscape mode.
This is according to a recent discovery in the iOS 12 beta by the folks at iHelp BR where they managed to force the iOS simulator tool to run iOS 12 and Xcode at 1242×2688, which for those unfamiliar is the rumored resolution of the 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus. In doing so, they also discovered that some stock iOS applications were optimized for a potentially broader landscape layout as you can see in the image above.
Due to iPhones generally sporting a smaller display compared to iPads, a UI that works on the iPad might not necessarily work on the smaller iPhone’s display. However by packing a larger display, it allows for more screen real estate which allows developers to add more elements that might not have otherwise fit into the screen without being cramped.
We’re not sure if this necessarily “confirms” a larger 6.5-inch iPhone, but it’s hard to ignore the implications of this discovery. In any case it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we’ll learn more in the coming months.
