SteelSeries’ GameDAC has been a solid way to boost the quality of gaming audio (and virtually any other audio), but there’s been a catch: to use it, you’ve had to buy an Arctis Pro headset rather than bring your own cans. That won’t be an issue afte…
Most role playing games live and die by the characters and the stories they weave. The decades-old Dragon Quest series has reached its 11th iteration, and Dragon Quest XI attempts to both both celebrate the series so far, and court a new audience.
GlobalFoundries, which manufactures AMD’s current Ryzen and Radeon chips, has surprisingly announced that it will stop all development work on next-gen 7-nanometer processors. Furthermore, it has no plans to develop future 5- and 3-nanometer technolo…
Top Android One phones this year
Posted in: Today's ChiliLG just made a rather startling announcement days before IFA. Unlike Samsung, whose first Android Go phone, the Galaxy J2 Core, was repeatedly leaked before it was finally announced, LG’s first Android One phone was almost totally unexpected. With the LG G7 One, another major manufacturer jumps into Google’s revamped program. But what exactly is Android One and what are … Continue reading
Scientists have made a discovery of a massive coral reef lying about 160-miles off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina. The discovery was recently announced but the reef itself is far from new. Scientists who discovered the reef say that it could have been lying about half a mile under the surface of the ocean for thousands or even hundreds … Continue reading
Say the name Kalashnikov and anyone familiar with firearms automatically thinks of the AK-47 assault rifle used in Russia and other countries for decades. Rifles aren’t all that Kalashnikov has in its arsenal. The weapon maker has now rolled out an EV that is called the CV-1 and it is an interesting mix of old and new in its design. … Continue reading
Stunt actors are generally overlooked and underappreciated. After all many people go to the movies to see their favorite actors and actresses, not to see who plays their stunt double. However stunt doubles are no doubt a necessity, especially in physically demanding movies, such as action movies.
It can be a dangerous profession, but Disney thinks that they might have solved that, or at least provided an alternative as the company has managed to create a very realistic and humanoid robotic stunt double. The project is dubbed Stuntronics and it basically involves robots that are capable of making on-the-go corrections to nail down the perfect stunt, as you can see in the video above in which the robots perform somersaults and tumbles perfectly.
There is even a scene in which the robot flies up in the air, poses like a superhero, before falling back down where it manages to tuck its body in to perform a roll and lands safely into the netting. We’re not sure if there are plans to put them to use in movies, but Disney has stated that they will be used in the company’s theme parks, but where and how exactly remains to be seen.
Speaking to TechCrunch, Morgan Pope, Associate Research Scientist at Disney said, “So often our robots are in the uncanny valley where you got a lot of function, but it still doesn’t look quite right. And I think here the opposite is true. When you’re flying through the air, you can have a little bit of function and you can produce a lot of stuff that looks pretty good, because of this really neat physics opportunity — you’ve got these beautiful kinds of parabolas and sine waves that just kind of fall out of rotating and spinning through the air in ways that are hard for people to predict, but that look fantastic.”

Earlier this year LG launched the LG G7 flagship smartphone. The company is also expected to launch the LG V40 later this year and while that has yet to be confirmed, LG has recently taken the wraps off two brand new handsets (sort of) in the form of the LG G7 One and the LG G7 Fit, both of which are based on the current LG G7 flagship.
Starting with the LG G7 One, in case the name hadn’t already clued you in, this will be LG’s first Android One smartphone. Basically this is a pure version of Android, meaning that this is Android as Google had more or less intended, so in theory it should be a lot faster compared to skinned versions of Android that might have a ton of other features slowing it down.
The phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage, along with a 16MP rear-facing camera. It’s not exactly the most powerful phone we’ve seen, but had this been launched in 2017, it would have been considered almost-flagship quality. As for the LG G7 Fit, this phone will be slightly lower powered than the LG G7 One with a Snapdragon 821 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage.
However despite that, both phones will share some similar hardware with a 3,000mAh battery and a 6.1-inch QHD+ display. Pricing and availability have yet to be determined but the company is expected to show the new phones off at IFA 2018 which takes place later this week.

If dark mode is a feature that you love and would like to see more apps adopt as an option for users, you might be interested to learn that if you’re an Android user, the Google Phone app will be getting a dark mode soon. This is according to the app’s listing on Google Play in which under the “What’s new” section, it reads, “The Phone app has a fresh new look. And coming soon – Dark mode.”
This is actually a rather interesting strategy by Google. As you might have heard, Android Messages is also getting a dark mode (it was added, removed, and is now being added back again). It almost sounds like Google is slowly introducing dark mode across its own native apps which seems like a roundabout way of bringing dark mode to Android.
Dark mode for Android has been talked about and spotted a few versions ago. For example back in Android Marshmallow, during its developer preview settings for dark mode was spotted, but it obviously did not make the cut. The feature was once again spotted in Android Nougat, and we all know how that turned out.
There has been speculation that it could also be making its way onto Android Pie, but with Android Pie having been released, we haven’t seen the feature yet. However like we said, Google has been bringing the feature onto its various apps, such as YouTube, so we guess that’s probably the next best thing for now.
