Apple Adding Depth Control For iPhone Xs In Future iOS Update

One of the features that Apple boasted about the iPhone Xs and Xs Max is the ability to adjust the depth-of-field (DOF) after a photo has been taken. In a way it’s almost like what Lytro’s cameras do, in which users can adjust the focal points after a photo has been taken. However now it looks like Apple will be adding a new feature for better DOF control.

According to a report from Macerkopf (via 9to5Mac), a new feature spotted in the iOS 12.1 beta has revealed that Apple wants to add DOF controls while taking a photo. This means that users will be able to adjust the DOF while they’re composing an image, so they can decide what looks best before snapping the pic. Of course photos can still be edited after it has been taken, but allowing adjustments before makes the whole process more flexible.

Now there have been camera apps released in the past that have allowed users to adjust the aperture of the iPhone’s camera (which also affects the DOF), but having a native option built into the camera app itself is probably a welcome one since not all users want to pay for third-party camera apps.

That being said, it is unclear when this feature will be released. While it has been spotted in iOS 12.1’s beta, it does not necessarily mean that it will be released in iOS 12.1. Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information on when it is available, so check back with us at a later date for more updates.

Apple original content tipped to be in trouble already

While its devices are still making it millions, Apple is seen to be shifting to a more services-oriented business model. Like what Amazon does with its Kindle and Fire devices, iPhones, iPads, and Macs are increasingly becoming gateways into Apple’s software and, more importantly, subscription-based services. It may already have music streaming in the bag but as far as video … Continue reading

Blizzard Is Selling A $200 Replica Genji Sword From Overwatch

If you’re a fan of collectibles then you might be interested to learn that Blizzard has announced that they will be selling a replica of Genji’s sword from Overwatch. This sword will feature built-in lights to replicate the sword’s effects from the game, and even has a sound chip that will playback Genji’s sound clips from the game.

Unfortunately the replica sword does not come cheap as it will cost $200 to get your hands on it, but if you’re an avid cosplayer or you simply enjoy collecting toys and memorabilia from video games, then this could be worth checking out. The sword measures 48-inches by 5-inches and features a 1/2-inch blade. It also weighs 2.9lbs, while the sheathe will weigh 0.8lbs.

It will also be good for displaying because the entire bundle will include the sword, the sheathe, and also a stand in which you can rest both the sword and sheathe on. It is expected to be released in December but for those who are interested, you can go ahead and pre-order it now. Genji’s sword is not the first Overwatch collectible that has been released so far.

Blizzard is also selling various Overwatch statues and Nendoroid figurines that might be worth taking a look at in case replica weapons aren’t really your kind of thing.

Casio's see-through G-Shock watches are an icy blast of nostalgia

Casio’s G-Shock watch line is enjoying a bit of a renaissance on its 35th anniversary (you can even get a full metal model if you like), and the company is making the most of it with some particularly eye-catching wristwear. It just introduced a Gla…

Chrome 69 ties Google services with browser login

Chrome is, perhaps by now, the world’s top browser in terms of reach. But while the product is made by Google, based on an open source foundation, not all Chrome users would identify themselves as Google users as far as the company’s services go or vice versa. That distinction, however, may soon no longer exist as the latest version of … Continue reading

Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season Might Not Be Completed

Last week Telltale Games announced that they would be conducting massive layoffs at the studio, indicating that the company was in the process of shutting down. However the statement read that there will be some staff remaining to help fulfill the company’s obligations to its board and partners.

This seemed to suggest that ongoing projects could still be wrapped up, including the final season of The Walking Dead game. Unfortunately that might not longer be the case, according to a tweet by Melissa Hutchison who does the voice acting for Clementine in the game. Hutchison claims that Telltale is expected to go ahead and release Episode 2 of the final season, but will stop after that.

This is actually not the first time that rumor has come about. Previously US Gamer had also heard from a source that Episode 2 will be the final release and that would be it for the game. It is a shame considering that many are looking forward to the game being wrapped up for good, and to leave it hanging in the last season does seem like a pity.

Telltale did previously state that they will be making more comments about its product portfolio in the coming weeks, so hopefully there will be more details about the fate of The Walking Dead’s final season.

Google Drive To Use AI To Suggest Files You Might Need

File managers these days are getting smarter, where they can anticipate the files or folders we access often, which in turn puts them in positions that are easier and quicker to access. This has been the case with Google Drive for a while now, but it looks like Google is now turning to AI to make it better.

Dubbed “Priority”, this is a new feature announced by Google that will make “intelligent” file suggestions as well as organization. According to Google, “Using machine learning, we identify the files that are high-priority for you to work on. When you open the page, you’ll see those files, along with comments and suggested actions.”

It will also help with organization where the AI can sort files into various workspaces. “The Priority page also organizes files into workspaces. These let you gather a private set of working files for ongoing easy access. Adding files to a workspace doesn’t affect their storage location or permissions—it just aggregates files to help you find them faster.”

Unfortunately according to Google, Priority is currently in beta which means that it won’t be available to all users just yet, but it sounds promising and we expect that Google will eventually roll it out to more users.

Google Maps ‘Decide With Friends’ Feature Rolling Out To Some Users

We’re sure many of us have organized outings and meetings with friends, but because everyone has different tastes and preferences, sometimes it can be hard to decide which bar to go to, which restaurant to eat at, and so on. Google is now making it easier by rolling out its “Decide with friends” feature.

This was actually a feature that was announced at Google I/O earlier this year, where users could create a list of places that they want to visit, share it with a group, and then those who are part of the group can then vote on what they want. This can be useful for organizing meetups with friends, or even on vacations where someone can put together a list of places that could be worth checking out, and everyone else can then vote on the best places if they’re short on time.

Adding places will be pretty straightforward as all users need to do is find a place and add it to the list. That being said, like we said earlier this feature is now being rolled out to some users. This means that there will be some of you guys who don’t see it available just yet, and since it appears to be a server-side test, updating the app won’t really change it (although you should keep your apps updated anyway). Hopefully Google will roll it out soon and we’ll keep our eyes peeled.

World War II and Zombies Combine in the Kinetic, Intense, Overlord

Overlord is not what you’re expecting. Trailers and early buzz have pumped it up as a “Nazi zombie” film which, while true, doesn’t quite do it justice. Actually, Overlord is first and foremost a fairly typical, behind enemy lines war film about a group of soldiers who need to complete a mission. It just so happens…
