Hayabusa2 MINERVA-II1 hopping rovers send back asteroid pics

Conspiracy theories aside, man has landed rovers on the moon and on Mars. But on something as “mobile” as an asteroid? Hardly. But that is exactly the achievement that the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency or JAXA celebrated a few days ago when it reported that its Hayabus2 mission successfully launched two MINERVA-II1 rovers. And more than such having successfully landed … Continue reading

Google Maps ‘Decide With Friends’ Feature Rolling Out To Some Users

We’re sure many of us have organized outings and meetings with friends, but because everyone has different tastes and preferences, sometimes it can be hard to decide which bar to go to, which restaurant to eat at, and so on. Google is now making it easier by rolling out its “Decide with friends” feature.

This was actually a feature that was announced at Google I/O earlier this year, where users could create a list of places that they want to visit, share it with a group, and then those who are part of the group can then vote on what they want. This can be useful for organizing meetups with friends, or even on vacations where someone can put together a list of places that could be worth checking out, and everyone else can then vote on the best places if they’re short on time.

Adding places will be pretty straightforward as all users need to do is find a place and add it to the list. That being said, like we said earlier this feature is now being rolled out to some users. This means that there will be some of you guys who don’t see it available just yet, and since it appears to be a server-side test, updating the app won’t really change it (although you should keep your apps updated anyway). Hopefully Google will roll it out soon and we’ll keep our eyes peeled.

Animated Diablo Series Reportedly In Development At Netflix

We’ve seen how video games that are translated into movies usually don’t do so well, which is why it looks like Blizzard could be taking a different route with Diablo. In a report from Variety, it seems that a Diablo animated series is being developed over at Netflix. This was actually revealed by Boom! Studios founder Andrew “Andy” Cosby who tweeted (and deleted) that he’s in the “final talks” to write and act as a showrunner for the upcoming series.

There is no official word yet from either Blizzard or Netflix, but we can’t say that we would be surprised if the rumors are true. Blizzard’s Diablo franchise has been kind of dormant for a while now, although to Blizzard’s credit they do put out new patches from time to time to keep the game interesting. There have been rumors of a Diablo 4 and an animated series could rekindle interest in the franchise.

Blizzard had previously stated that they had multiple Diablo projects in the works, so an animated series could be one of them. In the meantime Blizzard has also decided to launch Diablo 3 for the Nintendo Switch which is expected to be made available early November. Granted the game is kind of old, but it will be interesting to see how it handles on the Switch which will support local co-op.

World War II and Zombies Combine in the Kinetic, Intense, Overlord

Overlord is not what you’re expecting. Trailers and early buzz have pumped it up as a “Nazi zombie” film which, while true, doesn’t quite do it justice. Actually, Overlord is first and foremost a fairly typical, behind enemy lines war film about a group of soldiers who need to complete a mission. It just so happens…

Apple Watch 4 fall detection disabled by default

Apple has made it no secret that it wants the Apple Watch to be the health wearable you’d ever want (and, in consequence, require you to purchase an iPhone to go along with it. But while the new ECG heart monitoring is definitely interesting, it is actually the fall detection feature that’s piquing the curiosity of consumers and especially YouTubers. … Continue reading

Bethesda Lets 12-Year Old Boy With Cancer Play Fallout 76 Early

Recently it was revealed that a gamer with a terminal cancer diagnosis managed to get a chance to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate ahead of its release, thanks to Nintendo who helped make it happen. Now it looks like Bethesda has done the same for a 12-year old boy called Wes who has been diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma.

According to the Facebook page setup by the boy’s parents, it revealed how the doctors thought that it was best to stop the treatment for his illness, meaning that he might not have much time left to live. Wes was upset as it meant that he might not get a chance to play the Power Armor Edition of Fallout 76 that he had pre-ordered as the game was only set for a release in November.

However Bethesda caught wind of this and the company’s community manager Matt Grandstaff drove up to Maryland to hand deliver an early copy of the Power Armor Edition which contained a prototype power armor helmet which was signed by Todd Howard himself. He also got to enjoy an early version of the game, although it seems that he did not get to keep it as it was an early version of it.

In the meantime Wes’ parents have setup a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of some their expenses, which includes traveling back and forth to New York to see his doctors, which you can check out if you’re interested in helping out.

Apple Watch Series 4 Fall Detection Is Off By Default

While the most obvious changes Apple made to the Apple Watch Series 4 is by increasing its screen size, the company did make a ton of changes and improvements under the hood. For example of the its features is fall detection where it can tell when the wearer has fallen and there is even the option of calling for help.

However it has been pointed out in a post on Reddit that the fall detection feature is actually off by default. This means that if you want to take advantage of it, you will need to manually turn it on. This is actually mentioned on Apple’s support page in which they state that the fall detection feature is off by default, unless you’re 65 years old or older.

According to Apple, “If you’ve entered your age when you set up your Apple Watch or in the Health app and you’re age 65 and over, this feature automatically turns on.” We’re not sure why fall detection is off by default, but presumably this could be due to trying to conserve battery as much as possible.

In any case if you’re not familiar with how to turn on fall detection, head on over to the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, select My Watch, and under Emergency SOS you can enable or disable fall detection. So far we have seen how effective the Apple Watch has been at alerting users to unnaturally high (or low) heart rates which has saved a life on more than one occasion, so it will be interesting to see whether fall detection will offer up similar usefulness.
