Instagram Now Lets Users Send GIFs In Direct

While emojis are a good way of expressing your feelings without words, sometimes they aren’t enough and that’s where GIFs come in handy, where you can share your feeling and thoughts in fun and animated ways. For those who use Instagram and would like to see GIF support, you’re in luck, sort of.

Instagram has announced that they will now support users sending GIFs via Direct. This means that you will now be able to send GIFs to other users in private messages. Granted we’re sure that some would like to be able to upload GIFs to their profile, but who knows, perhaps this could be the first step in that direction.

According to Instagram, “In any message thread, tap the new GIF button in the composer bar to open a library of the latest trending GIFs powered by GIPHY. Swipe through to see what’s currently trending or search using keywords or phrases to find the perfect GIF to make your friends laugh.”

Users will also be able to send each other random GIFs simply by tapping the random button from the GIFs that they have searched for. GIF support for Instagram is now live and available in the latest version of the app for iOS and Android, so update your app if you haven’t done so already.

Nintendo Patent Hints At N64 Classic

Earlier this year it was suggested that thanks to a trademark filing, Nintendo could be planning on launching an N64 Classic console. Given that we’ve seen Nintendo release Classic consoles for the past two years, it’s not a stretch to think that this year we might see a new one, and following the NES and SNES Classic, the N64 Classic makes sense.

Of course whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but a recent patent has hinted that it could be true. The patent was filed for a game controller which looks pretty much identical to that of the N64. Considering that Nintendo no longer makes the N64, it doesn’t make sense for them to file a patent for it, unless they were planning on releasing N64 Classic which would use the same controller design.

However the only thing holding it back is that Nintendo has yet to officially announce anything, and we are already in the month of September. This means that Nintendo will probably need to make it official in the next month or two at the latest if they hope to make it available in time for the holiday shopping season.

These Classic re-releases are the rage these days, although in all fairness Nintendo did kind of kick if off with the NES Classic from two years ago. Since then we have seen other companies follow suit, the most recent being Sony with its PlayStation Classic.
