Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 PS4 Content Will Launch Only 7 Days Earlier

While we’re seeing more support for cross-play in recent times, console exclusives are still a thing, such is the case with Activision and Treyarch’s upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. However the good news is that if you’re not a PS4 gamer, the wait will be considerably shorter this time round.

According to a post on Activision’s website, the publisher has announced the Sony PS4 consoles will still be getting an exclusive lead in terms of post-release content. Previously non-PS4 gamers had to wait as long as 30 days before such content was released for them, but now it seems that they’ll only need to wait 7 days.

Activision writes, “Speaking of content, PlayStation 4 players will get to play new content first on PS4 by seven days. This means all the playable content coming to the Black Ops universe following launch will land seven days early on PS4, including new specialists and maps, as well as seasonal events. After seven days, all new playable content will come to other platforms.”

However given that this time the updates and releases are expected to be in smaller, bite-sized pieces rather than massive updates, it makes sense for the exclusive period to be shorter. That being said, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is currently set for a release on the 12th of October where it will be playable on the PS4, Xbox One, and the PC.

Nintendo Switch Online Service Blocked In China

If you are traveling to China and plan on bringing your Nintendo Switch with you, you might want to take note that the console’s recently launched online service is blocked in the country. While China doesn’t seem to have issue with Nintendo or the Nintendo Switch, it seems that its online service is blocked.

It turns out that the reason why this is the case is because the Switch’s Online voice chat service is being hosted on Google’s servers. Given that Google services are still banned in China, it means that users attempting to access the Switch Online service will not be able to do so. However note that this is only for the console’s online service, which means that using the console offline and for single-player or local multiplayer games should not be an issue.

That being said, it is unclear as to what Nintendo plans to do about it, but it has been pointed out that since the Switch has not been officially launched in China, it seems unlikely that the company will be addressing it. There have been some temporary workarounds offered, so you can go ahead and try that if you absolutely need to connect to the service, which involves the changing of your public DNS.

Interestingly enough the Switch Online service isn’t the only gaming service to have been blocked. It was previously reported that Twitch has also been blocked in the country, despite it being available earlier.

Walmart Uses Oculus Go To Train Its Staff

Walmart started out as your traditional retailer, relying on its brick and mortar stores to sell its goods to customers. However over the years as technology started to afford shoppers different ways of shopping, we’ve seen Walmart start to adapt its operations accordingly, whether it be turning to companies like Uber and Lyft for deliveries, or adopting the use of machines in place of cashiers.

Now other areas we’ve seen Walmart interested in is virtual reality (VR), where previously the company had started to use VR to train some of its staff at the company’s training centers. Now it looks like Walmart is expanding on that program by distributing the Oculus Go VR headsets to its stores across the US to help train more of its staff.

According to Andy Trainor, Walmart’s senior director of Walmart U.S. Academies, “The great thing about VR is its ability to make learning experientia. When you watch a module through the headset, your brain feels like you actually experienced a situation. We’ve also seen that VR training boosts confidence and retention while improving test scores 10 to 15 percent – even those associates who simply watched others experience the training saw the same retention boosts.”

Walmart won’t be the first to use VR to train its staff. Last year Google experimented with the idea of using VR as a training tool, where they found that using VR was more effective compared to just watching videos.

Verizon Launches Kid-Friendly GizmoWatch With 4G LTE

While most of us might think of smartwatches and activity trackers as devices aimed more at adults, the reality of today is that kids are just as tech-ed up as most adults, with parents relying heavily on smartphones and tablets to help entertain and educate their children. This is why it’s not surprising that we’re seeing smartwatches and wearables designed for kids as well.

Now for those looking for a kid-friendly smartwatch, Verizon is more than happy to oblige with the launch of the GizmoWach. This is a smartwatch that is aimed at kids and according to Verizon, is the first 4G LTE kid’s watch in the US powered by Qualcomm. It’s a rather specific achievement, although the point is that with 4G LTE support, it means that the watch can make and receive phone calls without the need for a smartphone.

According to Brian Higgins, vice president of device and consumer product marketing for Verizon, “The new GizmoWatch has all of the benefits that parents and kids are looking for in a smart watch in a stylish and cool new look kids will love. It has the connectivity of Verizon’s 4G LTE network and offers a ton of tools to keep kids safe and entertained.”

The device will feature a more durable band and will also come with safety features. For example parents can setup geofencing that lets them know when their kid ventures out of it. They can also set designated numbers as safe contacts, meaning that only numbers that have been pre-approved will be able to call the GizmoWatch. In terms of pricing, the Verizon GizmoWatch will be priced at $180.

Nomad Unveils New Wireless Charging Base Station

As much as many iPhone users are probably looking forward to seeing the launch of Apple’s AirPower wireless charging mat, last we heard it might be a while until we see it, if at all. However if you are looking for wireless chargers, then you might be interested to learn that Nomad might have something for you.

The company has recently taken the wraps off its new Base Station. This shouldn’t be confused with the company’s previous Base Station which was basically a dock that could charge both the Apple Watch and the iPhone at the same time (using a wired connection). Instead this new Base Station is a wireless charging pad that has been very beautifully designed.

According to Nomad, “Base Station integrates a sleek, modern design with a highly functional charging hub. With 3 high-power charging coils, Base Station can charge 1 or 2 phones wirelessly. There are also two out ports: one USB-A and one USB-C PD with an 18 W output capacity.”

According to Nomad, it will support charging of up to four devices at once, although the space on the Base Station will only allow about two phones, and the other two devices can be charged using wired USB-A or USB-C connections. There are also built-in LED indicators that can automatically dim at night. That being said, the Nomad Base Station does not come cheap at $100, but for those who don’t mind paying those prices, you’ll be able to pre-order it via Nomad’s website.
