Facebook Portal video chat device launching next week

Facebook’s smart speaker may still be MIA but if this latest insider leak is true, it will skip that product entirely. Instead, it will jump directly into the smart display market with a product that, according to sources, will be called “Portal”. The company delayed the product’s debut and incorporated one unplanned privacy feature due to recent scandals, but it … Continue reading

Capcom’s ‘Mega Man’ Classics Have Been Released In Cartridge

Back in the day, buying games in physical format was pretty much the only way you could get games. These days digital purchases are becoming more popular as it means you don’t need to make a trip to the shop, you can play on the same day of its release, and it takes up considerably less physical space.

However there are some who might prefer the physical format, maybe for nostalgia or collection purposes. If that’s you, then you might be interested to learn that together with iam8bit, Capcom has released a couple of Mega Man classics in cartridge format, which will be available as either Mega Man 2 or Mega Man X.

Now there will be two different versions of each game, a “regular” version and a glow-in-the-dark version. They will also be extremely limited where each title will only have 8,500 copies available, which will comprise of 7,500 units of the regular version, and 1,000 units of the glow-in-the-dark version.

Iam8bit notes that the colorways have been packaged and sealed at random, meaning that you can’t choose which one you get and it will be totally random. Note that the cartridges are actually playable assuming you have a compatible system, although we imagine that these are more for collecting rather than playing. The Mega Man 2 and Mega Man X cartridges are priced at $100 each.

iPhone XR Will Use Algorithms To Achieve Bokeh Effects For Its Photos

While the iPhone Xs and Xs Max continue to employ the use of the dual camera setup, the cheaper iPhone XR will be using a single camera. We’re sure many are wondering if the single camera will be capable of capturing the same bokeh-like effects compared to dual camera handsets.

It turns out that it will, and it seems that to achieve that, Apple will be relying almost entirely on an algorithm to do so. In a post on Medium by journalist Lance Ulanoff, he spoke to several Apple execs about the cameras on the new iPhones where Graham Townsend, Apple’s Senior Director Camera Hardware confirmed that the iPhone XR will use algorithm to achieve the bokeh-like effects that the iPhone Xs and Xs Max achieve with its dual camera setup.

Sebastien Marineau-Mes, Apple’s VP Software Camera, Photos & Security also added, “We turned the model of a lens into math and apply it to that image. No one else is doing what this does. Others just do ‘blur background.’” Note that Apple isn’t the first to use software to try and accomplish bokeh effects.

Some might recall how the Pixel smartphones were launched with single cameras, but yet still managed to pull off very impressive boeh using nothing but software. It remains to be seen how well the iPhone XR’s camera handles in real life as the phone is only scheduled to be released in October.

Spider-Man Garmin Vivofit Jr. 2 Is Aimed At Kids

Fitness trackers are great if you’re looking for a way to track your fitness activities. They can be used by people of all ages, although admittedly giving an Apple Watch to a kid might not be the best idea as they might damage it. However if you’d still like to equip your child with a fitness tracker, Garmin might have something for you.

The company has recently taken the wraps off a Spider-Man themed fitness tracker in the form of the Vivofit Jr. 2. This isn’t the first time that Garmin has partnered up with other companies to released themed fitness trackers. Prior to this, Garmin had released Star Wars and Disney Princess themed fitness trackers, so the Spider-Man version doesn’t exactly come as a surprise.

Also given the massive success of Spider-Man on the PS4, we reckon it’s actually pretty good timing. As for the features of the tracker, it pretty much does what all trackers does, which lets its wearer track things like steps, sleep, and there will also be challenges for kids to complete them, such as chores, all of which can be customized by parents via its accompanying smartphone app. Challenges that are completed are then rewarded with virtual coins.

In terms of pricing, the Vivofit Jr. 2 will be priced at $80 which makes it a pretty affordable options for parents who want to equip their kids with fitness trackers.
