Audi launched its first 100% electric vehicle, the Audi E-Tron, in our city of San Francisco yesterday evening. This new car increases the competition in a segment of the market currently dominated by Tesla. The Audi E-Tron SUV is an worthy Tesla Model X competitor.
If the Audi E-Tron looks familiar, it might be because you’ve seen something like it on Ubergizmo back in 2016 when Audi was showing the E-Tron SUV as a concept, as it wowed to launch three electric cars by 2020. So farm Audi is making good on its promise, and will probably have more to announce in with the next year and a half.
Starting at $74,800, the Audi E-Tron comes with a 95 kWh battery (which is quite large) and can reach 60 mph in ~6 seconds. That’s not the fastest acceleration, but this is an SUV, so customers might not make it a critical point. Audi says that the car produces 355 HP (Euro standards).
By European standards, it has a range of 248 miles, but Audi did not reveal what the range will be under U.S standards which typically yield more conservative range estimates. This is a crucial metric for customers, much more so than raw power, and we’re looking forward to hearing about the official U.S numbers.
The E-Tron braking system can recuperate some energy, and Audi claims that this can contribute to a third of the range.
Audi’s Fast-charging allows the battery to go from 0% to 80% in 30mn, but that works on public infrastructure. At home, a charge could take from 4.5 hrs (22 kW) to 8.5 hrs (11 kW) depending on what charger option you install. To ease any possible range anxiety, Audi’s navigation can calculate and guide users through the optimal route, taking charging needs into account.
The E-Tron is a four-wheel drive car, although it will automatically switch to rear wheel drive most of the time, except when extra traction is needed in the front for control or acceleration.
E-Tron is 100% Audi, which means that customers can expect the same level of craftsmanship, user interaction (+new features) and support. Unfortunately, U.S customers won’t have access to some of the coolest tech, such as OLED virtual rear mirrors because our legislation does not yet authorize such hardware on the roads. Google Assistant-powered smart displays have only been released by third-parties so far but Google will soon release its own smart display powered by its AI assistant. Newly leaked photos show that the device will be called the Home Hub and it’s likely going to be unveiled alongside the new Pixel smartphones at Google’s October event.
The Google Home Hub has a 7 inch LCD display with a bit of Google’s trademark smart speaker fabric showing at the bottom. A volume rocker and a mute toggle can be seen at the back of the device. The device is said to weigh in around 480g which means that it won’t really come with any significant speaker improvements because that’s only a bit more than the original Google Home.
While the Home Hub may have light and color sensors above the screen, there doesn’t seem to be a front-facing camera. This means that the device will not have support for Duo calls. It would also be at a disadvantage of smart displays from the likes of Lenovo and JBL that do come with cameras for video calling.
What’s not known as yet if whether this is the final version of this product or these renders are merely of a prototype. If that’s the case then the final product could be a bit different from what we see here. In any case, Google is likely going to announce its first smart display at its October event.

The world’s first hydrogen-powered trains have gone into service in Germany. The two trains are part of a service running along a 62-mile track in the country. The trains have been created by a French company called Alstom and they are running on a route that was previously used by diesel locomotives.
The hydrogen-powered trains are no slouch either. They are capable of hitting a top speed of 87 miles per hour and have a 600 mile range. This allows them to make nine trips on a single tank. The trains use fuel cells that combine hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity. That electricity is stored on board in batteries for use later.
These trains are more expensive than their diesel counterparts but they are cheaper to run and also help minimize the emissions from fossil fuel-based locomotives as they only emit steam and water. That’s one of the main reasons why the country has decided to make the shift to hydrogen-powered trains.
Germany is actually planning to expand the use of hydrogen-powered trains in the coming years. Alstom has plans to make another 14 hydrogen trains for Germany by 2021. France will be using these trains as well, its first hydrogen train is expected to enter service by 2022.

Welcome to 2018, Nintendo. After 38 years in the gaming-hardware business and 15 years after the launch of Xbox Live, Nintendo is finally offering an online subscription service in its latest console, the Switch. Nintendo Switch Online goes live on t…
Fortnite has taken the world by storm. In fact, the game is so popular that Epic has released versions for PC, Xbox, PS4, iOS, Android and the Nintendo Switch, making the game about as accessible as possible.
The popularity of the game stems from the general popularity of the Battle Royale genre and popular streamers like Ninja, who have made the game so much fun to watch. But it also comes from the fun, and often fleeting, skins, dances and pick axes the game offers in its Item Shop.
On October 5th, folks interested in the Switch can pick up some extra Fortnite swag.
Nintendo is releasing a bundle that will include an exclusive Fortnite skin, glider and pick-axe, as well as an extra 1,000 V-Bucks. To be clear, 1,000 V-bucks is the equivalent of $10 and won’t get you much from the Item Shop.
Plus, as pointed out by the Verge, Nintendo has offered several different bundles which would allow customers to pick up a Switch for $329 alongside one of a few games. In most cases, those games cost money, whereas Fortnite is a free to play game.
But the Nintendo Switch bundle is the only way to get your hands on the Switch gear that comes with it.
This isn’t the first time that Epic has given out exclusive gear to players using different hardware or services. There is an exclusive Twitch Prime skin, a Sony PS4 skin, and even a skin for Galaxy Note 9 owners.
The Bundle is available for $329 on October 5.
