Google Brings Android To Cars With The Largest Auto Group

Google is teaming up with the world’s largest auto group – Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance – to bring Android OS to cars. These companies ship the most number of cars globally every year and this partnership will enable Google to tap into that and have millions of cars running its Android operating system. Android will be behind the infotainment and navigation systems in these cars. The systems will enable drivers to access apps through the Play Store, access Google Assistant, and navigate using Google Maps.

The shift to Android OS for their in-car systems won’t be immediate, though. These branded cars won’t come with Android until 2021. The Alliance could be selling a lot more cars by then as it already sells more than 10 million units worldwide.

This partnership will also bring Google Assistant to cars, enabling drivers to control many features through voice commands. “In the future, the Google Assistant, which employs Google’s leading AI technology, can become the main way customers interact with their vehicles, hands-free,” said Kal Mos, the Global VP of connected vehicles at the Alliance.

Google’s Android OS won’t be getting exclusivity, though, as the in-car systems will remain capable of running other platforms such as Apple’s CarPlay. The options will remain open for these car manufacturers even they place a big bet on Google’s platform.

SpaceX’s To Fly Japanese Billionaire Around The Moon

SpaceX is a private space company and it plans on flying tourists, the ones with very deep pockets, to space. The company had been teasing the announcement of its first space tourist and CEO Elon Musk has finally revealed who will be hitching the first paid ride on SpaceX’s Big Falcon Rocket. It’s Yusaku Maezawa, the Japanese billionaire founder of online fashion retailer Zozo. He will be accompanied by eight artists and cultural figures on the journey around the moon.

Maezawa was formally revealed as SpaceX’s first space tourist at an event in Los Angeles. Musk didn’t reveal how much the billionaire has paid for this journey, only saying that he paid a “significant” deposit for the trip. Reports estimate that the entire trip might cost Maezawa between tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars.

“He’s paying a lot of money that would help with the ship and its booster,” Musk said during the event, adding that “He’s ultimately paying for the average citizen to travel to other planets.” Maezawa said that the decision is based on his “life long dream,” and proclaimed enthusiastically that “I choose to go to the moon!”

Maezawa will have to wait for some time before he can make his trip to space as SpaceX continues to work on the rocket side of the Big Falcon Rocket. His launch date is expected to be at some point in 2023.

‘Official’ Google Pixel 3 And Pixel 3 XL Renders Leaked

There has been no shortage of leaks concerning Google’s upcoming smartphones. We have seen plenty of live images and even a proper unboxing video. However, the leaks keep on coming, and today we get to see the “official” press renders of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. If you have been following up on the previous leaks then there’s not much in these images that would surprise you.

The renders of the devices show the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL in the textile cover. It’s not a new accessory for these handsets that Google first introduced the textile covers with the Pixel 2 series.

The image has both handsets side-by-side so it’s easy to make out the physical differences between the two. The Pixel 3 is reportedly going to have a 5.4-inch display while the Pixel 3 XL will stay true to its branding with a 6.2-inch display. The Pixel 3 XL will also feature a notch as the display will be pushed to the edges.

While other manufacturers are competing in the sensor race and building devices with as many as five cameras at the back, Google is sticking to the single camera setup for the back. Then again, the number of sensors doesn’t necessarily equal to better performance. Both handsets have a dual front-facing camera.

Google is due to announce the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL at its event on October 9th in New York City.
