Unannounced Chromecast Already In Stock At Best Buy

Google is yet to announce a new Chromecast. It would be the third-generation of its HDMI dongle that allows users to access apps and stream content on TVs. Recent reports had suggested that a new Chromecast is in the pipeline and it turns out that Best Buy is already stocking this unannounced product.

The retailer does have a history of stocking products sometime before they’re actually announced and due to be released. That’s basically what has happened with the third-generation Chromecast as well.

This new Chromecast was certified by the FCC last month. The filing shows that it may feature Bluetooth and perhaps even better Wi-Fi reception. Google hasn’t officially announced it as yet but a Best Buy customer has already been able to purchase this unannounced Chromecast from his local store.

A user on Reddit went to Best Buy to purchase a Chromecast and noticed that the packaging and design was different from his first one. “I thought it was just a design refresh taking queues from the Chromecast Ultra. Then when I was at the cashier, they couldn’t scan the item because it wasn’t in the system yet because the release date is on the 9th of October (Same day as the 2018 Google event) but I guess they put it out too early,” he explained.

Since the price was the same as the second-generation Chromecast, the store allowed him to purchase it under the old SKU. The new Chromecast model has a matte finish which is different from the glossy plastic of its predecessor.

He wasn’t able to set it up, though, because the Google Home app asked to be updated first even though he already had the newest version installed. The updated app will be available only once this product is announced so even if someone buys it now, they won’t really be able to use it until Google officially announces the new Chromecast.

Sony Confirms It Won’t Host PlayStation Experience 2018

Sony has hosted an event called the PlayStation Experience in recent years. It announces new games at this event in addition to providing details about other projects. Fans now look forward to the PlayStation Experience annually just to see what the company has been working on over the past few months. Those who have been waiting for PlayStation Experience 2018 will be disappointed because the company has confirmed that it won’t be hosting the event this year.

The confirmation came from Sony Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden during the company’s PlayStation Blogcast. Layden said that this was a hard decision for the company to make.

He added that “we wouldn’t have enough to bring people all together in some location in North America to have that event. We don’t want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on it.”

Sony has been working on some new titles that fans are eagerly awaiting, these include games like Death Stranding and the Ghost of Tsushima. Normally these titles would have been shown off at the PlayStation Experience event but it makes sense for Sony to not hold the event this year if these gamers aren’t far along enough for them to be showcased publicly to fans.

Guy Makes a Giant-sized Soundwave Boombox

Everyone has their favorite Transformers from the original animated series. For some it’s Optimus Prime, for others it’s Bumblebee or Grimlock, but for many Soundwave is the best Transformer ever. For those fans, this custom Soundwave-shaped boombox is everything.

So what genius made this geek masterpiece? That would be Bob from the YouTube channel I Like To Make Stuff. He makes all kinds of cool stuff so that the rest of us can be inspired. To create this awesome boombox, he used a combination of MDF for the speaker’s housing, foam for the buttons and other non-functional details, and there is also a pair of Bluetooth speakers hidden inside.

Okay, technically Soundwave wasn’t a boombox, but maybe he should have been. It was the ’80s after all. Sadly this thing doesn’t transform, but that’s okay. It is completely awesome just the way it is. It is a non-transformer that will blast tunes wirelessly streamed from your smartphone. Especially if those tunes are from any of the Transformers soundtracks.

Bob really did some great work on this, and all of the details are just perfect. Now if he can just make it transform, it would be absolutely perfect. Get on that Bob.
