Telltale, the studio behind some popular episodic games, announced last week that it’s shutting down and laying off most of its employees. The studio has subsequently stopped selling The Walking Dead: The Final Season. It has temporarily removed the game from online game stores like Steam.
The GOG page for The Walking Dead: The Final Season now greets visitors with a message which says “Telltale has requested a temporary pause of sales of The Walking Dead – Final Season.” The final season is also not available for purchase through Steam or game stores for consoles.
The studio has also reportedly confirmed that it has halted season pass sales for the title as it tries to figure out how it’s going to finish the final two episodes. Given that the notice says that it’s only a “temporary pause” of sales, it suggests that the title could be back at some point in the future.
The Walking Dead’s final chapter has been left in limbo with the shut down of the studio. There’s doubt right now about whether or not it will even be possible to get the two remaining installments ready. For its part, Telltale does want fans to know that “potential partners” are interested in completing the game, but that doesn’t really inspire a lot of confidence right now.
