Huawei Won’t Sell Kirin Processors To Other Manufacturers

Huawei is one of the very few manufacturers who develop and use their own processors for smartphones. Samsung is one of them. The company not only uses its Exynos chips for its smartphones but also supplies them to customers. Huawei smartphones come with the company’s own Kirin processors and the Chinese giant has reiterated that it has no intention of supplying Kirin chips to other manufacturers.

Brody Ji, Huawei Consumer Business Group’s senior product director, told journalists recently that the company has no plans to sell its Kirin chips to other manufacturers.

He explained that Kirin is treated as intellectual property by Huawei which enables it to better compete with its rivals. “For Huawei, Kirin is not a business but a product or technology that acts as our competitive edge against rival smartphone brands,” he explained.

Huawei’s HiSilicon division deals with the manufacturing of its Kirin chips. Most of Huawei and its sub-brand Honor’s smartphones use these chips. Huawei does source chips from Qualcomm for some of its devices but users its Kirin chips for the majority of its handsets. The company’s high-end and mid-range devices will continue to ship with its Kirin processors while the entry-level devices will be powered by Qualcomm’s processors.

Alexa is reported down across Europe

Reports are coming in that Amazon’s Alexa service is down in parts of UK, Spain, Germany and Austria. According to Down Detector and Twitter, the problem started surfacing around 8am local time and still continues. Interestingly, some users are reporting the issue is isolated to Echo Dot 2 models and while other Echo devices are still working. Sometimes. Other reports say everything is down. When users try to talk to their Echo devices, Alexa will report an error with connectivity and spin a red ring around the top.

Because of this outage, users will have to use wall switches to turn on lights, press buttons to make coffee and look outside to assess the weather. Sucks. I know.

As Engadget points out in their coverage, the outage could stem from Amazon Web Service issues at the company’s Ireland facility. Amazon is now reporting that those issues have been resolved so there’s a chance Alexa will be coming back online shortly.

Hitman 2 Colombia Gameplay Trailer Released

IO Interactive’s Hitman 2 is scheduled for a release in November. For those curious about what the game has to offer, then you might want to check out the video above which is the latest gameplay trailer for the game that shows its Columbia location. The video shows what we can expect in terms of graphics, and also mechanics that we can look forward to.

That being said, for a while the Hitman franchise was in a state of flux. Last year Square Enix parted ways with IO Interactive which meant that the games would no longer be published by the former company, which led to some wondering what would happen to the franchise. However Warner Bros. later announced that they would be picking up publishing duties for the franchise moving forwards, and Hitman 2 will be its first game.

Hitman 2 will also see IO Interactive return to a more “traditional” release model, whereas previously the company had released the game on an episode basis. The idea behind the episodic release was that it would allow the developer to stagger the release to prolong the life of the game, while also keeping things fresh and interesting.

However IO Interactive mentioned that there were some who weren’t too pleased with that particular release model, which is why they have returned to the more traditional model. Hitman 2 is currently set for a release on the 13th of November, so keep an eye out for it.
