Microsoft Releases OneDrive Files On-Demand For Mac

Microsoft’s OneDrive Files On-Demand feature is now available for users on macOS. The company today confirmed that it’s bringing OneDrive Files On-Demand to the rival operating system. This feature is available starting today for OneDrive beta testers.

OneDrive Files On-Demand was announced in May last year. It allows users to access all of their files in the cloud without having to download them and for them to take up local storage space on their device. All of those files could be seen in File Explorer so users could continue working as they always have even though the files would be in the cloud.

This feature is now being released for the macOS in beta. Files that users have uploaded will now show up in the macOS Finder as well. The files don’t have to be downloaded and the feature will only download them as and when required by the user. It won’t automatically sync every file and users do have the option to opt for the files that do get synced.

The feature will require macOS 10.14 Mojave which is due to be released later today. An Apple File System formatted volume will be required for it to function. Those who are interested can sign up to try Files On-Demand for Mac in beta.

SiriusXM Announces $3.5 Billion Acquisition Of Pandora

SiriusXM today announced that it’s acquiring internet music streaming company Pandora for $3.5 billion. It says that the Pandora brand and service will be retained after the acquisition so the service’s almost 70 million monthly active users don’t have anything to worry about right now. SiriusXM itself has some 36 million subscribers.

This acquisition is hardly surprising given that SiriusXM had invested $480 million in Pandora last year for a 19 percent stake in the company. It was first speculated at that time that SiriusXM could eventually buy the company outright.

That’s what has happened now. Pandora will thus join SiriusXM’s portfolio as its first proper streaming service which will complement all of its other radio services. SiriusXM says that this acquisition will create “the world’s largest audio entertainment company.”

With regards to the subscription price increase, the company has said that there will be no changes to any SiriusXM or Pandora subscriptions or services at this point in time. However, the same can’t be ruled out for some point down the line.

Absolutely nothing will be changed immediately after this acquisition so Pandora’s ad-supported streaming option will continue. The service’s 5.6 million paying members have nothing to worry about right now as well. SiriusXM has also clarified that ad-free content “has been and will continue” to be the main differentiator for its key service.

Roku Devices To Get Support For Google Assistant

It will soon become easier to control your Roku devices. The company has confirmed today that it will soon be possible for users to control its devices through Google Assistant. A software update will be rolling out in the next few weeks which will bring Google Assistant to Roku-branded TVs, sticks, and streaming boxes.

Google Assistant support will enable users to control the devices with voice commands given to the digital personal assistant. It will be possible through any Google Assistant device such as a smart speaker like the Google Home or just the Google Assistant app on a smartphone.

Roku device owners will be able to play and pause content through voice commands, search for content and launch channels. Those who have a Roku TV will be able to switch it on and off, change the channels, and also switch the inputs with voice commands given to the Assistant.

Some might be surprised that Roku is opening up to Google Assistant even though it already offers some voice control functionality of its own, particularly on devices that ship with its voice remote.

The Roku Entertainment Assistant is being developed as well. It will let users do basically everything that they can accomplish with the Google Assistant on Roku devices but even though that assistant was due to arrive this fall, it may be a while before Roku’s offering becomes available.
