Elon Musk has a company that digs underground tunnels and it’s aptly called The Boring Company. Musk has now revealed that the company’s first tunnel is going to open under LA later this year, on December 10th to be precise. The Boring Company has been digging this rapid transit tunnel beneath Los Angeles for several months now.
Once the tunnel is opened, the company is going to offer free rides to the public on the following night, Musk confirmed through Twitter. It’s a two-mile test tunnel that’s located underneath SpaceX’s headquarters in Hawthrone, California.
It’s meant to serve as a proof of concept for an underground mass transit system which will transport not just people but vehicles below the congested roads on “skates,” which are electric platforms driven autonomously. The skates will be able to transport up to 16 passengers or one passenger vehicle. They will run on magnetic rails and hit speeds of nearly 155 miles per hour.
The company has also floated the possibility of having these high-speed tunnel systems connect cities but tunneling experts have raised concerns about the claims, particularly about what it’s going to cost to build these tunnels. That remains a debate for the future. The first tunnel’s opening will be closely viewed to ascertain whether or not there’s some truth to the claims that The Boring Company has made so far.

How the Universe Ends
Posted in: Today's ChiliSomewhere between a second and a millennium from now, you will die. Your body and all of its parts will cease functioning and rejoin the Earth as regular, lifeless stuff. The Earth, too, will die, engulfed by an expanding, aging Sun. The Sun will burn off all of its fuel and end up a white dwarf, then burn out and…

The recent hack which revealed information of millions of users may have compelled Facebook to take more concrete measures to improve the security of its platform. To that end, the company might be thinking about acquiring a cybersecurity firm. That’s what a new report has claimed.
Its hunt for a cybersecurity company comes almost a month after Facebook announced that tokens for some 30 million accounts were stolen by hackers. The tokens allowed them to access basic information such as names, emails or phone numbers for 14 million users and additional information for some 15 million users.
The acquisition of a cybersecurity company will serve two purposes. Facebook will obviously get special security talent and it would also serve as a public relations move to show that it’s seriously improving the security of the world’s largest social network.
The Information hears from multiple sources that Facebook has been talking to multiple cybersecurity firms about a possible acquisition and that a deal could be closed by the end of this year. The names of the companies that it’s in talks with haven’t been disclosed.
Facebook hasn’t officially confirmed or denied this report as yet so it’s keeping its cards pretty close to its chest about this right now.

Samsung’s HMD Odyssey headset was one of the best of its kind for the Windows Mixed Realty platform and the company has today announced an improved version of the headset called HMD Odyssey+. Some minor improvements have been made to the headset to provide a better user experience. The displays have been upgraded with an Anti-Screen Door Effect to help reduce nausea in users.
The Anti-Screen Door Effect technology will prevent the pixelation that can sometimes be experienced in virtual reality headsets. It retains the dual 3.5 inch AMOLED 1440×1600 per eye resolution of its predecessor but there’s a bigger eye box now to prevent fogging. The Anti-Screen Door Effect technology makes the spaces between the pixels less visible and this bumps up the perceived PPI from 616ppi on the previous model to 1233ppi on the Odyssey+.
The improvement should help prevent dizziness or nausea in users when using this headset. There’s a new Inter-Pupillary Distance wheel on the headset to allow users to adjust the lenses for a better match with their eyes.
It retains some key elements from the predecessor such as AKG audio and 6 Degrees Of Freedom tracking. The new Samsung HMD Odyssey+ is now available in the United States from the company’s website and the Microsoft store for $499.
