DIY Portable Skee-Ball Machine Doesn’t Dispense Tickets

If there’s one game I always loved playing at Chuck E. Cheese’s when I was a kid, it was Skee-Ball. There’s just something so satisfying about rolling those balls down the ramp and into one of the point buckets – especially when the tickets come pouring out of the machine so you can redeem them for fabulous prizes. While this homemade Skee-Ball machine forgoes the ticket dispenser, it still looks like a bunch of fun.

Instructables contributor Seamster created this Skee-Ball machine on wheels, so it can be rolled out during parties, and then put away when not in use. What’s cool about it is that it was primarily constructed using reclaimed items, including old metal bed frames, rubber mud flaps from a truck, road signs, a chalkboard, and scrap wood.

It appears that the only new bits are the 3″ flexible drain pipes and used for the ball return system. For the balls, he used those baseball practice balls, but I think I’d want the real wood composite balls if they weren’t so damned expensive. And lest you think it would be hard to keep track of your score, this machine has a built-in ball sorter tray, which indicates how many points each ball scored. Smart!

This is such a great build, and something I’d love to have in my home arcade someday. If you’re like me and want your own Skee-Ball machine, head on over to Instructables to check out the full build instructions, including parts lists and templates.

The USSV Rhino GX might just be the perfect family car

While it certainly doesn’t look like a minivan the Rhino GX, from US Specialty Vehicles, is actually well-suited to carting your kids to soccer practice, family road trips, driving the school carpool, or picking up the weekly groceries. No, it doesn’t exactly blend in like ever other SUV on the school run, or indeed like any sort of minivan you’ve … Continue reading

Vertu Returns With Aster P Luxury Smartphones

Nokia first launched Vertu as its luxury subsidiary many years ago. It has since been passed from owner to owner and was most recently in the news for a bankruptcy. However, Vertu is back now with another luxury smartphone aimed at customers who have more money than they know what to do with. The Aster P Baroque and Aster P Gothic start at $4,200.

Vertu unveiled these devices at an event in China earlier this week. They boast a titanium alloy frame, a sapphire glass screen, and rear panels that are made with genuine leather. The specs are nothing to write home about as they’re effectively mid-range smartphones.

They’re both powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. A 12-megapixel rear and 20-megapixel front camera are present alongside a 4.97 inch 1080p display. The handsets are available in a variety of finishes with the price obviously going up depending on the materials opted for.

The two panels at the back are an interesting design feature. They open in a gull-wing motion like the doors of a Mercedes SLS. That’s where you put the SIM card and also see the signature of the person who made the phones. Vertu’s smartphones are hand-made.

Vertu is only offering them in China currently. The Baroque and Gothic series start at $4,200 and $5,100 respectively.

PS Vue Integration Brings Live And On-Demand Shows To Apple’s TV App

PlayStation Vue, Sony’s standalone online TV streaming service, has become the first streaming TV provider to be integrated with Apple’s TV app. This means that users of this app on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV will now be able to browse on-demand and live content from within Apple’s TV app.

Apple’s TV app works more like an aggregator as it brings in content from multiple providers in a single platform. Users will now be able to access content from Vue in this repository as well. They will first have to sign into their Vue account and the app will then automatically start pulling content from the service, both on-demand and live programming.

The caveat here is that the content won’t start playing within Apple’s TV app. Once users decide what they want to watch, the app will send them over to the official PlayStation Vue app where it’s going to be streamed. The whole idea here is to make it easier for users to discover content from all of the services they use in one place. That’s what Apple’s TV app aims to achieve.

PlayStation Vue is the first live streaming bundle provider to receive such integration with the TV app. It’s possible that we may see additional integrations of this sort down the line.
