Speck’s GrabTab is a revolutionary grip assist accessory

speck-grabtabSpeck has churned out accessories for mobile devices for quite some time now, and most of them are limited to smartphone and tablet cases that offer protection accompanied by style. This time around, Speck has revealed their all-new super slim grip assist accessory known as the GrabTab. The GrabTab was specially designed in order to deliver a secure hold on devices regardless of their size, without having it impede any of the other functions of the smartphone it is attached to. Sporting a comfortable holding loop, this holding loop has dual functionality since it also doubles up as a convenient phone stand for on-the-go entertainment.

A normal grip assist accessory is common and extremely affordable, but its major drawback would be having additional bulk on a device. This in turn makes it difficult to pull the device in and out of a pocket or other small spaces such as a handbag. Apart from that, many times the standard issue grip accessory would get in the way of Qi wireless charging capabilities, which would then turn such a popular and important device feature redundant. The GrabTab solves both of these challenges by the simple fact that it is credit card-sized while measuring a mere 3mm thin, helping to maintain the sleek body of today’s modern handsets while ensuring the continuity of full compatibility with wireless charging.

Installing and using the GrabTab is a snap. This particular accessory will adhere firmly to the back of the device’s case, where the flexible strip manually slides up in order to lock into place so that it can create a finger-sized loop which is comfortable and easy to grip. When engaged, the GrabTab provides a comfortable and secure hold each time you are on the move, snapping selfies, sending text messages or updating your social media profile, among others. The loop also functions as a stand which can prop the device on its side, coming in handy when you need to watch videos, read the news or simply carrying out a video chat with friends.

Such a universal design allows the GrabTab to work with most smartphone cases and devices. With an asking price of just $9.95 apiece, this is certainly an extremely affordable accessory that anyone can pick up to be more productive on the move.

Apple Introduces A New Smart Keyboard Cover For The iPad Pro

Apart from the Apple Pencil, one of the other unique accessories for the iPad Pro is its Smart Keyboard cover. This is basically a keyboard that doubles as a cover that to a certain extent transforms your iPad into a pseudo laptop of sorts. Now it looks like Apple has since introduced a brand new Smart Keyboard cover that was announced alongside its new iPad Pros.

The new Smart Keyboard has been slightly redesigned in terms of its functionality. Previously the Smart Keyboard only offered users one angle, but the new Smart Cover will offer users two different angles to choose from. One angle has been designed for use of the tablet on your lap, while the other has been designed in the event that you use the tablet and the keyboard cover on a desk.

Similar to its predecessor, the new Smart Keyboard will pair quickly and seamlessly with the iPads and will attach to the iPad using magnets. Apple has not mentioned anything about changing the keyboard mechanism so for those who aren’t a fan of the current Smart Keyboard, it doesn’t seem like anything has changed.

In terms of pricing and availability, the 11-inch Smart Keyboard Folio will be priced at $179, while the 12.9-inch Smart Keyboard Folio will be available for $199.

Floppotron Plays Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” aka The Funk of 40 Floppy Disks

If you are looking for a Halloween scare of the audio variety, check this out. You only have a day until the big holiday, so turn off the lights, turn up your volume, and put Paweł Zadrożniak’s latest work on loop. Yes, the famous Floppotron has a creepy electronic cover version of Michael Jackson’s Thriller waiting for you.

It’s not only spooky and creepy because of the song itself, but when you think about it, this is a collection of dead gadgets that are playing all of the instruments. Dead gadgets now have risen from the grave. Zombie gadgets not with a thirst for brains, but for power. That’s pretty scary when you really think about it.

Michael Jackson would surely approve. Perhaps it will make him rise from the dead to dance along. You never know what zombie technology is capable of. So if you see a zombie moonwalking this Halloween, you may want to look closer. Better yet don’t look closer. Just run. Run before he grabs his crotch and sings “Yooo-hoo”.

This could be the start of some very chilling real-life horror. Hey, it could happen. Anything can happen on Halloween night.

The iPad finally moves to USB-C

Lightning had a good run, but it’s time to switch everything to USB-C. Apple finally dropped the Lightning port with the new iPad Pro. And it’s much more versatile than Lightning.

For instance, you can plug a 5K display to your iPad Pro and show some video on the external display. It’s still unclear how it’s going to work when it comes to software, but it opens up a lot possibilities.

You can also use USB-C dongles to plus all sort of data accessories. SD card readers, Ethernet cables, etc. The iPad Pro is looking more and more like a traditional laptop. Many third-party accessory makers will probably use this opportunity to develop docks and other hubs.

Finally, the good thing about USB-C is that you can theoretically turn any device into an external battery pack. Using a USB-C to Lightning, you can now charge an iPhone from your iPad. It’s an expensive battery pack, but it can be useful for those who always carry both at the same time.

Now let’s hope this is the first sign that USB-C is coming to the iPhone. I can’t wait to use my laptop charger to charge my phone, or my iPhone charger to charge my Nintendo Switch.
