MIT’s AI Accurately Identifies Breast Cancer Like A Radiologist Would

Artificial intelligence has shown to be of great use in medical applications and Massachusetts Institute of Technology is giving us yet another example of that. It has developed an automated model with the Massachusetts General Hospital that can identify breast cancer as accurately as a radiologist would.

Studies suggest that one in eight women in the United States are affected by this diseases. One of the reasons for the development of this disease is dense breast tissue which around 40 percent of women in the U.S. are said to have. The tissue not only makes mammogram screen difficult but it also increases the risk of breast cancer in these women.

The AI model developed by MIT and MGH can identify dense breast tissue in mammograms as accurately as a trained radiologist. The model is trained on thousands of digital mammograms and can thus identify the different types of breast tissue. Researchers have found a 90 percent correlation to the diagnosis made by expert radiologists.

Adam Yala, one of the authors on the model’s paper, says that the AI takes less than a second per image and it can be scaled cheaply throughout hospitals. They are now working on finding out how this model can be used in other healthcare applications.

This isn’t the only AI model developed for detecting breast cancer. Google has recently claimed that its AI has a 99 percent accuracy in detecting metastatic breast cancer.

Researchers found a way to monitor Ross Ice Shelf from afar

Direct study of Antarctica’s Ross Ice Shelf is difficult because of the extreme conditions at the location. Scientists believe they have found a way for monitoring of changes on the ice shelf from afar. The team has found that the wind blowing across the snow dunes on the Ice Shelf cause the shelf to vibrate. That vibration produced a near-constant … Continue reading

Battlefield V Single-Player Trailer Released

While games like Call of Duty and Battlefield are known for their multiplayer aspects, there are some gamers who do appreciate being able to play a single-player campaign every now and then. While Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 dropped its single-player mode, EA’s Battlefield V has not.

In fact the official trailer for the single-player campaign has been released, giving gamers a brief 2 minute look into what they might be able to expect from the game’s single-player mode. The description reads, “Discover the untold stories of World War 2 with Battlefield V’s single player War Stories. In Nordlys, resist German occupation in Norway, sabotage behind enemy lines as an unlikely English soldier in Under No Flag, fight for a home you’ve never seen in Tirailleur, and in The Last Tiger (available in December) join the crew of a Tiger I as they question why they fight.”

Battlefield V is currently set for a release on the 20th of November. The game was previously scheduled for a release on the 19th of October which is this coming Friday, but was delayed. According to DICE, the developer of the game, they claim that this was done to allow them to make some final adjustments to the game, but with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 released on the 12th of October, it is possible that EA and DICE didn’t want the games to overlap each other.

Hulu Looking Into Creating ‘Skinnier’ Live TV Bundles

The way we consume our media content these days has changed. Back in the day if you wanted to watch live shows, you’d have to turn on the TV. However nowadays we are able to watch live streams on our computers, phones, tablets, and so on, which we imagine was one of the reasons Hulu started offering live TV bundles.

However it seems that the company could be considering cutting back on its live TV offerings and instead focus their resources towards on-demand content. This is according to Hulu CEO Randy Freer who spoke to The Information (paywall; via 9to5Mac) where he stated that the company is looking into creating “skinnier” bundles for live TV.

According to Freer, “We have to be able to evolve so we can provide the customers the news and sports and entertainment in a way that makes sense, bundled in a way that allows us to create packages that have a positive margin.” Also by offering skinnier bundles, it will give customers more flexibility in choosing what they want to watch.

At the moment Hulu’s live TV bundles are priced at $40 a month, so if they can find a way to make a skinnier bundle that could potentially cost less, it might make them a more tempting platform. That being said, nothing has changed yet but this is something that the company is looking into for the future.
