This week Huawei surprised their audience with a smartphone OTHER than the one that’d been leaked. They revealed the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, sure, but they also showed off a new Huawei Mate 20 X. This new Mate 20 X came with a 7.2-inch OLED display with a 5000mAh battery under the hood and a triple-lens camera system on its … Continue reading
Leave your smartwatch on the counter because Timex is back with its first automatic watch in decades. Called the Marlin, this 21-jewel timepiece that hearkens back to the days of “Takes a licking, keeps on ticking.”
The Marlins cost $249 and come in multiple styles. This particular model, in a rich burgundy, looks like something that you’d wear to a Madison Avenue cocktail party after work. Timex has also released manual wind watches for $199 featuring a truly retro design and numerals.
Timex has long been a drug store brand – a brand sold in those cases at big drug stores and aimed at impulse shoppers who needed a watch… any kind of watch. While their Indiglo line of bright, light-up quartz watches was a long-time hit, they really didn’t do much beyond making a few very basic pieces for a non-discerning audience.
Now, however, the company clearly looked at its history and liked what it saw. Timex was one of the first American watch brands to expand on a mass scale and they suffered greatly during the 1980 quartz crisis, a moment when the watch industry went from mechanical movements to electronic. Many watchmakers never recovered or are now a husk of their former glory – Hamilton, for example – but Timex kept at it.
Now that they’ve given automatics and manual winds a try I’m excited to see where they go next. Many watchmakers have noticed that men and women are buying more and more retro watches to offset the creeping smartwatch flood. I’m glad to see the team at Timex is ready to take on this fascinating new world.
At the Huawei Mate 20 Pro event this week, Huawei showed off a new augmented reality feature called 3D Live Object. In addition to objects pre-loaded into the system, this feature will allow users to scan their own favorite object for later use. Once scanned, a 3D Live Object will be made available to exist in videos filmed by the … Continue reading
While companies like Nintendo and Sony are content to cram a smattering of back-catalog titles into a tiny box to cash in on gaming nostalgia, Analogue has instead focused on making it easy for devoted retro gamers to enjoy all of their favorite classic games by making them shine on modern TVs. To date, the company…

Fortnite’s In-Game Tournaments are now live. They were introduced to the title with the release of v6.10. They can be found in the new “Events” section of Fortnite Battle Royale. They have been opened to everyone which means that each and every player can now compete directly alongside pros for prizes and bragging rights. Players will have to opt-in for crossplay to participate in these events.
Each tournament will have scheduled dates and times during which it will be conducted. All players will begin with the same score in every tournament and compete over hours of intense competition to earn as many points as possible. Points can be earned either by achieving high placements or eliminating multiple opponents.
Players will be paired with others that have similar point standings through matchmaking during a tournament session. Those who are playing well within the session will be matched with stronger opponents. With In-Game Tournaments, Epic is bringing players into a single competition as equals regardless of their platforms so that it can place a “single shining spotlight onto the world’s best players.”
It has observed the performance of controller players in prior tournaments against mouse and keyboard players. It found that controllers players can be successful while competing against some of the best Fortnite players on PC.
More information about the tournament schedules is available on Epic’s website.

Earlier Huawei had unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. However it seems that’s not all the company had to announce as they have also taken the wraps off the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 20 RS. As the name implies, this handset has been designed in collaboration with Porsche Design.
However it should be noted that for the most part, the handset in question at its core is still the Mate 20, so whatever specs the Mate 20 has, so does this phone. This means that we can expect the same Kirin 980 chipset along with a triple camera setup on the back in the same array as the Mate 20. This will consist of a 40MP main camera, a 20MP Leica Ultra Wide Angle Lens, and an 8MP telephoto camera.
However like we said, it is still the Mate 20 under the hood and the focus here would be on the handset’s design. It will feature the use of leather and glass and a racing stripe at the back which we imagine is a nod to Porsche and its cars. It does exude a somewhat classy and luxurious feel thanks to the use of leather and also the somber colors, so if you like the Mate 20 but would prefer it in a different design, this could be one option to look at.
In terms of pricing, the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage model will retail for €1,695, while the 8GB RAM and 512GB storage model will go for €2,095.
