Winamp Expected To Return In All Of Its Glory In 2019

Back in the day before iTunes was as popular as it is, and before music streaming services like Spotify, Winamp pretty much ruled the scene as being the de facto music player if you listened to MP3s. Things have of course changed greatly over the years, where Winamp is now a distant but fond memory.

However according to a report from TechCrunch, it seems that Winamp’s grand revival and return to glory is expected to take place in 2019. This is according to Alexandre Saboundjian, CEO of Radionomy, the company that had bought Winamp. He told the publication that we can expect to see a completely new version of Winamp come 2019 where he envisions it being the de facto platform that it once was.

According to Saboundjian, “There will be a completely new version next year, with the legacy of Winamp but a more complete listening experience. You can listen to the MP3s you may have at home, but also to the cloud, to podcasts, to streaming radio stations, to a playlist you perhaps have built. People want one single experience. I think Winamp is the perfect player to bring that to everybody. And we want people to have it on every device.”

Details of what Radionomy plans to do is still scarce, save for the fact that they are hoping to revive the software. To be fair, Winamp never really went away. The app was on the verge of being shut down for good before Radionomy bought them over. However the app hasn’t really been updated officially since, although it continues to work. Whether or not Winamp is still relevant in this day and age remains to be seen, but we should find out come 2019.

Montblanc Summit 2 Smartwatch Launched For $1,000

Last year Montblanc launched the Summit smartwatch and it looks like they are back this year with its successor, the Summit 2. However not only is the Summit 2 Montblanc’s latest smartwatch, but it will also be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset that should in theory help with battery life.

Montblanc, for those unfamiliar, is a Swiss company that specializes in luxury products, such as writing instruments where their fountain pens are actually quite well-known to those who collect them. The Summit 2 seems to share some of that luxury traits with a 1.2-inch AMOLED sapphire crystal display along with an assortment of leather and nylon bands to choose from.

The smartwatch will also feature 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, NFC for Google Pay, GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi, and there’s a new “Time Only Mode” that will allow users to use the watch for an extra 4-5 days, although as the name implies this will pretty much turn the smartwatch into a regular watch.

As for pricing, the Summit 2 is more expensive than its predecessor and will cost $995 versus the Summit which costs about $100 less. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, then head on over to Montblanc’s website to get your hands on it.

Montblanc Summit 2, first with Snapdragon Wear 3100, is expensive

With a brand like Montblanc, it’s really no surprise that the Summit 2, which follows from last year’s model, is just as expensive as its predecessor. But, at the same time, for the smartwatch market’s first Snapdragon Wear 3100 wearable, you’d expect, maybe even wish, it to be something most people can afford. But reality quickly sinks in and you … Continue reading

Apple Expected To Keep Its LCD iPhone In 2019

With the iPhone X from 2017 representing Apple’s official shift into producing OLED iPhones, some are wondering when Apple is expected to make a full transition. Last year we saw two LCD models and one OLED model, and this year gave us two OLED models and one LCD model, so what does that mean for 2019?

For those hoping to see Apple make the full transition to all OLED models, it seems that you might have to wait a little longer. This is because according to notable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he expects that Apple will continue offering LCD iPhone models even in 2019. According to Kuo, he claims that Apple will be maintaining the same lineup of 2018 in 2019.

This means that we can expect an OLED 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch iPhone, followed by an LCD 6.1-inch iPhone. Exactly what these iPhones will be called is still unclear, but if you were hoping for a full OLED lineup or maybe even different screen sizes, then you might be disappointed. Note that this isn’t an official confirmation, but Kuo has been known to accurately predict Apple’s plans in the past so it stands to reason that this could be true.

That being said this might not be such a surprising move by Apple. Kuo had also previously raised his estimates of the iPhone XR (2018’s LCD iPhone model) where he believes it will actually do better than expected, so it would make sense for Apple to keep it around if it is doing well.
