Sony Aibo Robot Dog Teardown Is Like a Grim Scene from a Coroner’s Office

Sony’s robot dogs have always been popular. The company has a new Aibo that is already out in Japan, so if you are interested in buying one, you might want to know what makes them tick. If so, here’s a gruesome teardown of an Aibo ERS-1000, courtesy of Japanese website Robot Start.

As you can see, this is a pretty complex pup, loaded with circuit boards, servo motors, and sensors. It is even equipped with 4G LTE and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi that connect to Sony’s servers for deep learning, and can download new behaviors automatically if you have a subscription.

Behind those cute robot puppy dog eyes you’ll find some square full color OLED screens. A pressure-sensitive capacitive touch sensor wraps around to the top of the head, as well as under its chin so it can react to your petting. The robomutt also has a fish-eye camera in its snout that can identify faces and help it navigate.

It’s pretty amazing seeing all that goes into these dogs, and we can only speculate that five years from now they could be a lot more lifelike with even more features. Be sure to head over to Robot Start to see the brutal step-by-step teardown.

Razer Phone 2 faces off with razors and more in durability test

The Razer Phone 2’s design belies its gaming chops, at least until you start flashing those Chroma RGB colors underneath the logo on its back. Like its immediate predecessor, the Razer Phone 2 inherits the blocky design of its spiritual predecessor, the Nextbit Robin. The latter, however, suffered a humiliating death in the hands of JerryRigEverything’s Zack Nelson. Will the … Continue reading

‘Cheap’ Samsung Galaxy S10 Could Be In The Works

Samsung’s Galaxy S series of smartphones represents one of the company’s flagship lineups. As expected of flagship phones, they do not come cheap, but it looks like Samsung could be taking a page out of Apple’s book by launching three Galaxy S10 variants next year, with one of them being a “cheaper” model.

This is according to a report from Bloomberg who claims that there will be the “standard” Galaxy S10 variant with curved screens on its sides, an even larger version of the Galaxy S10 Plus, and also a cheaper Galaxy S10 that might do away with the curved edges and could also skip out on the under-display fingerprint sensor.

If this sounds familiar, it is because it is a similar strategy employed by Apple this year, where they launched the higher-end iPhone Xs and Xs Max models, and the iPhone XR which represented a more affordable iPhone for those who wanted a new iPhone but didn’t necessarily need all the bells and whistles.

Exactly how much cheaper this “cheap” Galaxy S10 variant could cost, but we’ll probably have to wait until 2019 to find out. In today’s climate where smartphone makers are charging upwards of $1,000 for smartphones, a cheaper flagship model is starting to appeal to customers.

The Elder Scrolls VI Will Be A Long Time Coming

Following the love that fans showed Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the series in general, it wasn’t surprising that many gamers were clamoring for more. Bethesda had played it coy at the start by saying that they wouldn’t have anything to announce, but yet earlier this year at E3, they confirmed that the Elder Scrolls VI was in the works.

According to Bethesda at that time, they announced it early to avoid disappointing their fans who might start endless speculation about the fate of the game. However it should be noted that while the game might have been announced, gamers should definitely not hold their breaths because it will be a long time coming.

This was confirmed when GameSpot spoke to Bethesda’s Pete Hines and ZeniMax Online Studios game director Matt Firor at PAX Australia where according to Firor, “The easiest thing is look at how it was announced; it was Starfield and then [Elder Scrolls 6]. You can go back and count the years between Bethesda Game Studios releases, and you’ll get the idea that [The Elder Scrolls 6 is] not coming anytime soon.”

HInes added, “I try really hard to manage people’s expectations. It’s not like ‘Fallout 76 this year, Starfield next year, and then TES6 the year after.’ The timeline isn’t any different. What’s different is just trying to be transparent and say, ‘Don’t freak out, the next thing we’re doing is single-player [in Starfield], [and] we are making TES6.”

So if you are looking forward to the Elder Scrolls VI, there’s still several years from that happening, so maybe you should put it at the back of your mind for now.

These Devil May Cry 5 Bundles May Make You Cry

Game bundles are not a new concept, with most “A” titles offering some sort of premium edition with extra goodies. These days, the most exclusive editions can get very, very expensive. Capcom’s “Ultra Limited Edition” Devil May Cry 5 Dante Bundle ups the ante for how much they can ask for a video game bundle. It costs 900,000 yen plus tax, or roughly $8,600(USD). Say what?

So what does all that money get you? The bundle comes with a copy of the game, interchangeable box art, and a handmade leather Dante jacket based on the one worn by the video game’s motion actor. If this is too expensive for you, they do offer two other Ultra Limited Edition bundles, Nero and V, that are a bit less pricey, in the $5,000 to $6,000 range. Who in the hell buys a game bundle for that much? Not me. There’s no way the jacket alone is worth that kind of money.

These Ultra Limited Edition bundles will be available in only Japan. You can pre-order the Devil May Cry 5 bundles between October 22 and November 19. I would be very interested to know how many of these get sold at full price.
