It would appear that an error occurred at the point at which users sent themselves password resets. Because of this, any user who’d forgotten their password and reset said password were from that point unable to access their account at all, … Continue reading

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey recently said that users shouldn’t be obsessing over the number of followers that they have on Twitter. He said that while users might have been incentivized to increase that number when Twitter was in its early days, “I don’t think it is right today.” Dorsey added that the number of meaningful conversations that users have on the platform are more important. To that end, Twitter has launched an updated iOS app which makes follower counts less prominent.
The font size for the follower count has been made smaller in this new update. A spokesperson for Twitter told The Verge that this redesign also de-emphasizes locations, birthdays, mutual follows, join dates, and following counts. Even the type and spacing sizes have been changed.
It’s a subtle change but it will serve the purpose well. The font for the follower count isn’t as large as it used to be before. This means that it won’t draw the users’ eyes as much as it did before. The idea here is that over time, users will not feel compelled to focus on this figure.
A few of these changes are visible on the Android app as well but other information like the join dates appear larger as they did before. Twitter may eventually update the Android app as well to maintain consistency across both apps.
