Alleged Photo Of Budget ‘Pixel 3 Lite’ Surfaces

Ahead of Google announcing the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones, there was a rumor suggesting that Google could be launching not just two, but three Pixel smartphones for 2018. However the announcement came and went with only two Pixel 3 devices, but now newly leaked photos suggest otherwise.

According to a post on Russian tech blog Rozetked (via Android Police), they managed to get their hands on what appears to be the “budget” version of the Pixel 3. Apparently this device has the codename “Sargo” which was actually spotted in an ARCore APK teardown from last week.

Based on the alleged specs of the phone, we are looking at a 5.56-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2220×1080. It is also rumored to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and will pack 32GB of storage with a 2,915mAh battery. As Android Police points out, the use of the Snapdragon 670 has typically been found in handsets mostly designated for Asia, which means that this phone, the Pixel 3 Lite, might not be launched in the US.

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but given Google’s interest in emerging markets with its Android Go platform, so for them to create a budget Pixel handset for such markets wouldn’t really be that much of a stretch.

Chromecasts Get Speaker Group Support On Google Home

These days we’re starting to see companies create connected speakers with support for multi-room audio. Being able to group these speakers and control them in a group makes a lot of sense, but for some reason, Google would not allow Chromecasts could not be grouped together, at least until now.

For those who love their Chromecasts and would love to see the grouping treatment given to them, it appears that Google is starting to allow users to group Chromecasts in speaker groups on the Google Home app. However it should be pointed out that these changes only appear to affect users who are part of the Preview, suggesting that this could be some kind of feature only available in the beta.

This means that not all users will see it yet, but it should eventually make its way to everyone. Alternatively if you want you can enable the preview program in the Google Home app to check it out, but as its name implies, this is a prevent so it might not necessarily be ready for primetime just yet.

Previously, only Cast-enabled speakers and Chromecast Audio dongles could be allowed in the speaker group, but since we imagine that sometimes audio and visuals go together, being able to include your Chromecast TV is a much welcome update.

Verizon’s ‘My Numbers’ Lets You Add Five Numbers To One Smartphone

The idea behind dual SIM phones is that you get to add two numbers to one handset, meaning that instead of carrying two phones with you, you only need to carry one and you can be contacted on either number using the same device. However the downside is that you’ll need a dual SIM capable phone.

However Verizon wants to change that by announcing a new feature called “My Numbers”. With this new feature, it will allow users to add up to five numbers that they can be contacted with on a single smartphone. According to Keena Grigsby, director of product marketing for Verizon, “My Numbers is a great solution for entrepreneurs, customers with side hustles, and for those who just want the convenience and flexibility of having multiple phone numbers without the hassle of carrying around a separate phone.”

Now obviously this isn’t a free feature and according to Verizon’s pricing, it will cost an additional $15 a month per line. However the downside is that unlike dual SIM phones that still work with native apps, Verizon will require users to download the “My Numbers” app which you will have to use to make calls and send/receive text messages with, which means that for iOS users, you’ll be giving up features like iMessage.

However if the convenience of having more than one number is a bigger priority to you, then perhaps this could be worth checking out. The app is available for download for both iOS and Android devices.

Certainly, Apple has put … Continue reading
