Square Enix Reportedly Already Working On A Game For The PS5

Now we know that there will be a PlayStation 5. Sony had previously confirmed as much, although there is the question of when the console will be released (some believe it could be launched in 2019). Regardless of a release date, it appears that Square Enix could already be working on something for the console.

In a post on ResetEra, it appears that thanks to the resume of Tomohiro Tokoro, a 3D character model lead artist at Square Enix’s Luminous Productions, it was listed that he is working on a “new AAA title for PS5”. Details about said title is next to nothing for now, except that it will be for Sony’s next-gen console.

For those unfamiliar, Luminous Productions is a division of Square Enix which is tasked to create AAA games. It was also created by Hajime Tabata, the producer behind titles like Final Fantasy XV, although he has since left the company which also resulted in the game’s remaining DLCs being cancelled.

That being said, we guess we can’t say we’re too surprised that Square Enix might already be working on something. After all we imagine that many companies would like to be one of the first to launch a game on a new console. We also have to wonder if they’re already working on a game, does it mean that a SDK for the PS5 already exists?

Metroid Prime 4 Is ‘Well In Development’

Last year during E3 2017, Nintendo announced and confirmed that a new Metroid game in in development in the form of Metroid Prime 4. However fast forward to today, Nintendo seems to have kept mum on any kind of Metroid-related announcements, and updates on the status of the game were missing from Nintendo’s presentations this year.

Unsurprisingly this has led to some wondering about the status of the game, and whether or not something might have happened to it. Thankfully it seems that Nintendo is still very much hard at work on it, according to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime who spoke to Mashable in an interview.

When asked about the status of Metroid Prime 4 and a potential release date, Fils-Aime said, “Internally, we have expectations about when [Metroid Prime 4] is going to be released. We haven’t announced it, but yeah, the game is well in development.” He also talked about how Nintendo usually likes to keep a relatively short window between announcement and release, but also stated how they think that sometimes it’s important to let gamers know that a game is in the works, even if it won’t be released anytime soon.

According to Fils-Aime, “There are times for strategic reasons that we believe it’s important to message that a game is coming. We did that years and years ago with Zelda. We were messaging a new Zelda experience back during the days of the Wii U… It really depends on the game, it depends on the type of development that it’s going through, and it depends on how we feel the consumer is going to respond to the particular message.”
