Sharp heard you complaining about smartphone display notches and clearly decided to really give you something to moan about, with the new Sharp Aquos R2 Compact having not one but two of the screen cut-outs. The diminutive Android phone has one of Sharp’s well-esteemed IGZO LCD displays, but to stay true to its “Compact” billing it takes bites out of … Continue reading
You can use Tinder anytime and anywhere, although just like restaurants and bars and clubs, there is a peak time when the most people might be using it at once. For example during the middle of the week in the afternoon, chances are there might be less people swiping through the app compared to a Friday night when people might be looking for a date.
Of course this isn’t necessarily a guarantee, which is why Tinder has announced that they will be introducing a new feature called Swipe Surge that will let users know when it is the best time to start using the app. This feature is currently a test on iOS devices so not all users will see it yet, but presumably pending positive feedback it should eventually find its way to all devices.
According to Tinder, “During a Swipe Surge, activity is up to 15x higher! And with that many more people at the party, your match-making potential is increased by 250%, which means you’ll also spark up a new convo with a cutie 33% faster — so keep your witty banter, and your phone charged.”
Tinder adds, “A Swipe Surge can happen at anytime, so turn on your push notifications for real-time updates that will tell you when it’s go-time. Next, just open Tinder, and settle in because the fun can last for minutes or hours. People who’ve already joined the Swipe Surge will jump to the front of the line, and we’ll even show you who’s currently active.”

Dark mode is a useful feature in apps because it helps reduce the overall glare that you get from an otherwise mostly-white interface. Even Google has found that dark mode actually helps with battery life. The good news is that if you’re an Evernote user, it looks like dark mode has finally made its way onto the iOS and macOS version of the app.
For the most part the update to the iOS and macOS app doesn’t change how the app functions or how it is used, save with the option for users to enable/disable dark mode. If you use your computer or phone in low-light situations like in bed at night, then dark mode might come in handy if you’d rather not go blind from the glare.
That being said, Evernote points out that there are still some areas of the app that aren’t dark, but state that they are working to fix that. “We were excited to give you dark mode as soon as possible, even though there are a handful of areas in the app where that’s not the case yet. We’re working on fixing that. In addition, some items—like images you’ve added with white backgrounds—may retain their white backgrounds even when using dark mode.”
As for Windows or Evernote Web users, the company mentions that they do not have a timeline as to when dark mode will arrive for those platforms yet, and are focusing their efforts on improving performance before introducing the option.

Japan is famous for a lot of things, from sakura blossoms in Spring to its unique cuisine to, of course, anime and manga. There is also this perception of the country being a technological superpower, especially in the fields of manufacturing, robotics, and computing. Those perceptions, however, may have been based partly on fantasy and romanticized fiction as the country … Continue reading
It’s understandable that many are curious if not excited over Samsung’s Android 9 update. And it’s not just because of the Pie. Renamed as One UI, it exhibits Samsung’s biggest changes to its user interface that eclipses the mostly cosmetic ones it did in the Samsung Experience UX. Plus, it will be the UI that will run on its foldable … Continue reading
Following an earlier report that the Justice Department was looking to prosecute WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, the Washington Post has now reported that Assange may have been charged under seal in a revelation that appears to have stemmed from a mistake in a court filing.
There have been some who are wondering if Blizzard could eventually make Overwatch a free-to-play game. As it stands, the game requires gamers to actually purchase the game before playing as there is no free trial period or a starter edition like World of Warcraft, but Blizzard did state that that’s what their free weekend events are for.
The good news for gamers looking to get more than just a weekend out of the game, you’ll be pleased to learn that Blizzard has announced that Overwatch will be getting a free week of game time where from the 20th of November to the 26th of November, the game will be free to play without any restrictions.
According to Blizzard, “For this free trial, we’re making the ultimate team-based shooter’s entire content available including the full roster of 29 heroes—including the newly released gunslinger Ashe—and 19 maps available for play in a variety of modes, such as Quick Play, Custom Games, and the Arcade. Players will also be able to level up, earn Loot Boxes, and unlock different customization options for their heroes.”
As with previous Overwatch free weekend events, gamers who do decide to participate in the event will be able to maintain their progress made in the game and carry it over if they do decide to purchase the game in full.
