Uber Rewards Program Launched To Provide Special Benefits
Posted in: Uncategorized
Days after Lyft announced the launch of a rewards program for riders, Uber today announced a similar program. Uber Rewards is not just limited to the ride-hailing service. Users will earn rewards points on both Uber and Uber Eats. The program will offer special benefits that users will be able to unlock as rewards.
Blue, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond are the four membership levels in Uber Rewards. Anyone can sign up to join at no additional cost. Once they’re in the program, they earn one point for every eligible dollar spent on UberPool and Uber Eats orders, two points for UberX, UberXL, Select, and Wav as well as three points for Black and Black SUV. Once they earn 500 points, they will advance from Blue to Gold.
They can then advance to Platinum once they have 2,500 points while 7,500 points are required to achieve Diamond status. Earnings periods are six months long and are tied to the user’s sign up date. When a tier is unlocked users have that tier for the remaining earnings period and the next six months.
Uber Rewards members will have $5 added to their Uber Cash balance for every 500 points earned regardless of the membership tier. The cash balance can be spent on both rides and food through Uber Eats. Gold members get flexible cancellations, they can cancel eligible Uber trips within 15 minutes for no charge. Platinum members get all benefits that Gold members do plus price protection on route and priority pickups at most airports.
Diamond is the highest membership tier. It included all of the aforementioned benefits in addition to dedicated phone support, complimentary surprise upgrades from UberX to Uber Black at no extra charge, and a special UberX Diamond option which will give them access to highly rated drivers. Diamond members also get no delivery fee on three Uber Eats orders every six months.
Uber Rewards starts in Miami, New Jersey, Denver, Tampa, New York, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and San Diego initially. It will be rolling out to all riders in the United States over the next few months.

A new limited time mode is headed to Fortnite, the insanely popular battle royale title. The developer Epic Games announced today that the title is getting a new mode called Food Fight. The mode arrives as part of the game’s v6.30 patch. The mode is essentially a food-themed base defense game between Durrr Burger and Pizza Pit.
Both teams will be building defenses around their restaurants in this mode while they try to destroy the mascot head that’s located inside the opponent’s base. This latest patch for Fortnite brings a couple of new weapons for the title as well. The Mounted Turret is a new addition in battle royale while the Last Word Revolver will be available in Save the World.
Even though the mode is called Food Fight it doesn’t appear that the mode will involve actual food slinging. Players won’t be slinging any pizzas or burgers at their opponents. The food actually acts like mascots for the teams so the members either have burger or tomato heads based on their team selection.
A variety of bug fixes are included in this patch as well in addition to improvements for the game’s social features. The full changelog of this Fortnite patch is available on Epic’s website.

Netflix’s CEO recently said that the company is thinking about offering cheaper subscriptions in select markets to further increase its user base. He didn’t reveal any information about these plans in his interview but the company has begun testing a mobile-only subscription that may be a part of Netflix’s plan to offer more affordable options.
Netflix has quietly started offering a cheaper package in Malaysia that costs RM17 or about $4 per month. It’s a mobile-only subscription that’s priced at half of what its basic subscription costs in the country which is RM33 or $7.90 per month.
The limitation here is that subscribers can only access Netflix’s library of TV shows and movies on one handheld device, be it a smartphone or tablet. Moreover, the content will only be available in standard definition and not high definition. Signups are only possible through the Netflix app or the mobile website. This tier doesn’t appear if the site is accessed through a PC.
A spokesperson for the company has confirmed this test in Malaysia and added that similar trials are being conducted in a few other countries as well. No further details have been provided about the tests so far. It’s unclear if this mobile-only tier will be offered in other markets outside Asia.
