Fossil Sport smartwatch gets a redesign

fossil-sportWhen it comes to smartwatches, there is a growing number of models that not only work great, but they look elegant and understated as well. Fossil has just added another member to their smartwatch family with the introduction of the Fossil Sport Smartwatch. It will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform and run on the newly redesigned Wear OS by Google, enabling it to offer a slew of new technology features such as extended battery life, a new battery saving mode, enhanced ambient mode, integrated heart rate, NFC, and GPS capabilities.

The design itself is extremely lightweight, and the accompanying colorful silicone straps add to its playful nature. Of course, aesthetics is one thing, but we are primarily more concerned with the kind of technology which is embedded underneath the hood, and we would come away impressed. In short, the Fossil Sport has been specially constructed to be your companion in achieving a balanced lifestyle regardless of the healthy activity pursued.

The Fossil Sport will arrive with six colorways, a couple of case sizes (41 and 43 mm respectively), and endless strap options. The new nylon and aluminum case would make the Fossil Sport the lightest smartwatch to date, and a 350mAh battery will certainly see it chug along longer than usual. With the latest Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform, the Fossil Sport will offer a full smartwatch experience with more than a full day of use. A new battery saving mode will add an additional two days of telling time, and you can have an improved user experience–select dials which will leverage the new platform to showcase color and a sweeping second hand for a more dynamic style.

It is nice to note that the Fossil Sport has an integrated sensor that processes heart rate, while enabling optimized connectivity, Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC capabilities. It takes around an hour to juice it up thanks to rapid charging technology, and the asking price of $255 makes it an extremely reasonable bargain.

A Few Pixel 3 Owners Complain About Vanishing Text Messages

It’s not uncommon for new devices to have issues that need to be ironed out with quick fixes but the Pixel 3 appears to have more than its fair share of such issues. A few reports of issues with the Pixel 3 include overheating while charging, aggressively killing background apps or issues with the Pixel stand. Some owners are now claiming that their text messages are vanishing for no apparent reason.

According to a report, this issue has surfaced after the recent security update was installed on the Pixel 3. Some device owners have complained that their SMS text messages are disappearing on their own ever since they installed the update.

Others have complained about similar behavior on the device. There are quite a few reports on Reddit about this issue and both Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL owners have complained about this. This has been particularly annoying for those who didn’t back up their text messages since they switched over to the new phone.

This could entirely be due to a bug with the Messages app as well but there’s no way of being sure of that right now as no reports have come in about the app making messages disappear on non-Pixel devices. Google is yet to comment on the matter so it’s unclear when this may be resolved.

Super Mario Party Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Bundle Comes to the U.S.

After being available overseas, Mario fans waiting for Super Mario Party and Nintendo Switch Joy-Con bundle to hit the States can finally order it on Amazon. The bundle gives you a copy of the game and some bright neon green and yellow Joy-Con controllers. They may not have images of the characters on them, but this is still a pretty cool and unique  color combo that gamers should love.

You’ll be glad to have an extra pair of Joy-Cons for playing the game with friends too, since it only supports unattached Joy-Cons. The bundle sells for $99.99 and will ship on November 16th. If you bought the game and Joy-Cons separately it would cost you an extra $27, so you’ll be saving some money. It would have been nice if the bundle had been available when Super Mario Party launched last month, but at least it is here now.

You’ll want to grab this while you can because I’m sure it won’t take long to sell out. Super Mario Party is always a lot of fun to play with friends and family. The party never truly gets started until you fire up this game.

Harry Potter Wingardium Leviosa Floating Feather Won’t Teach You Wizardry

One of the scenes I remember most in Harry Potter was when they were all young and learning their first spells. The scene where Hermione shows off by making the feather float is very memorable. Now you can buy a toy version of that magic wand and the accompanying floating feather for your next cosplay.

Muggles can play with this wand as it uses a high-tensile Aramid fiber threads connected to an Ostrich feather. The threads are invisible from 6-feet away, making it look like the feather is floating in the air at the command of the wand.

Sadly, this surfaced right after Halloween; it would have been perfect for people dressing up like Harry Potter and crew. The wand is $14.99 and available now at ThinkGeek.

“Who’s She?” Guessing Game Teaches Facts About Famous Women

I’ve played the old Guess Who? board game with my son and daughter, where you have to ask for hints about who the other player has by asking for clues about the character’s appearance. You ask things like “Do you have hair” and so on. There is a new game in the works that is very similar, but this game is all about extraordinary women in history, and none of the clues have to do with their appearance.

The game is called “Who’s She?” and it features wooden pieces illustrated with famous women on them, like Amelia Earhart, Hatshepsut, and Frida Kahlo. The game includes 28 biography cards that have facts about the lives of the women.

This game sounds like great a way to delve into women’s history while playing. It’s on Kickstarter now, and a pledge of at least $74 will get you a copy of this unique game when it starts shipping in early 2019.

This $199 PS4 and ‘Spider-Man’ Black Friday bundle has my bargain-sense tingling

I’m calling it — this is the best deal of this year’s Black Friday season, for gamers anyway. It’s amazing. It’s spectacular. Sony is selling a PlayStation 4 Slim with the new Spider-Man game for $199. That’s way too little money.

The 1TB PS4 slim currently retails for $300, and that used to be the cost of the 500 GB one. So a $199 price for the improved, terabyte-capacity console would already be a great deal. But throwing Spider-Man in there? I’m not usually one to call out individual details for Black Friday (we’ll have a roundup) but this is ridiculous.

That game came out just the other day, and has garnered absolute rave reviews; plenty of TechCrunch staff have lost dozens of hours to it, and expansions are on the way to suck even more time. It’s still going for full price most places, so that’s worth $50 or $60 right there.

I own a PS4 already and I’m going to do this. The Slim update didn’t change a lot, but it’s quieter, easier to use (no more invisible buttons!), and of course considerably smaller. Getting it for $139 is a no-brainer. Comes with a controller too, obviously. Then I trade in the old one and pick up Tetris Effect on store credit!

For comparison, both Microsoft and Nintendo are offering their basic consoles with a popular game bundled in for $299. Obviously Sony is looking to eat their lunch.

Sure, you could also save your money for a PS4 Pro. But the benefits there, while I wouldn’t call them dubious by any means, aren’t really must-haves for most gamers. Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t going to look that much better unless you’ve also got a 4K HDR setup and all that jazz. If you’re super into the AAA games and best possible graphics, by all means go for it, but for the rest of us who’d rather buy another 4 or 5 games with the money we saved? Slim it is.

There’s also a PSVR bundle for $200 and controllers are cheaper too. But the Slim is obviously the centerpiece here. You’ll have to go to “participating retailers” and probably fight people like me to get the deal, which goes live on November 18 like all the others.
