Businesses In Ohio Will Be Able To Pay Taxes With Bitcoin

Bitcoin has had a rough couple of weeks as its value continues to nosedive. However, support for the virtual currency continues to grow. Ohio has become the first state to allow businesses to pay their taxes with Bitcoin. It has opened a new cryptocurrency portal for this purpose. The Wall Street Journal reports that Ohio seems to be the first state to allow businesses to pay their taxes with a cryptocurrency. The idea apparently came from State Treasurer Josh Mandel.

The ohiocrypto.com portal will be used by businesses looking to make their tax payments with Bitcoin. The portal’s FAQ section mentions that state’s penchant for innovation and mentions that paying with Bitcoin is secure, transparent, and instantaneous.

There are 23 different taxes that businesses can pay with Bitcoin, including fuel and sales taxes. They will be required to enter their state registration number, tax payment amount, and tax period date. It will then be possible to use a cryptocurrency wallet to pay the amount. BitPay will be used by the state Treasurer’s office to process the payment.

Businesses that are operating and paying taxes in Ohio can use this portal even if they are headquartered out of the state. Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that’s accepted but it’s possible that additional options may be offered down the line.

Chevy Volt Production Ends As GM Shuts Three Plants

As sales struggle to pick up, General Motors today announced that it’s ending production of the Chevy Volt, its plug-in hybrid vehicle. Production of the car will cease on March 1st, 2019. It’s part of a wider plan by the auto giant to reduce production in North America. GM is laying off thousands of workers as it’s also shutting down three of its manufacturing plants.

General Motors is executing its plan to stop production of a few brands that are not selling well. For this reason, the company will be shutting down its plants in Oshawa, Ontario; Detroit, Michigan; and Warren, Ohio. The future of these plants remains uncertain. The company added that it’s making $3 to $3.8 billion in changes so that it can generate around $6 billion in positive cash flow by 2020.

GM is also going to layoff salaried executive employees and contract staff by 15 percent. This will result in 25 percent fewer executives to streamline decision making. The Associated Press reports that this change will result in an estimated 14,000 factory and white-collar employees losing their jobs.

This is the biggest restructuring that General Motors has performed in North America ever since its bankruptcy about a decade ago. Investors seemed to like the decisions announced as the company’s shares rose 7.6 percent soon after the news became public.

Red Dead Online Beta Goes Live Tomorrow

It has been almost a month since the much-awaited Red Dead Redemption 2 was launched. Rockstar had previously said that it would launch the game’s online mode in beta soon. That’s going to happen tomorrow. Rockstar has confirmed that Red Dead Online will go live in beta on November 27th.

The Red Dead Online beta won’t go live for everyone at the same time. Rockstar is staggering the launch so it will go live for some users initially. It’s likely doing this to prevent the server issues that had caused problems when GTA Online was rolled out a few years back.

Customers who purchased the ultimate edition of Red Dead Redemption 2 will get access to the beta from tomorrow. The beta will then open up to anyone who played the game when it launched on October 26th the following day. It will be playable on Thursday for anyone who played the title between October 26th and 29th. Red Dead Online beta will then finally be opened up to all players on Friday, November 30th.

Red Dead Online is free for anyone who owns the Red Dead Redemption 2 game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The base game is the foundation of the online mode which takes on a life of its own that’s shared by multiple players.

Teddy Ruxpin Returns to Terrify a New Generation

I remember one Christmas all my brother wanted was a Teddy Ruxpin. I hated those things, they were super creepy bears with mechanical animatronic eyes that blinked. I was pretty sure it would eat my soul during the night. Teddy is back for a new generation, and at least this one appears to lack those horrific eyes.

This updated version has LCD eyes that will still blink but don’t look as maniacal as those of the original. They can actually display more than 40 animations. The new Teddy Ruxpin differs from the original in how it loads stories too. This one reads along with stories on an app as his mouth moves and its digital eyes blink. Its mouth is motorized, so don’t stick your fingers in there.

Teddy also has touch sensors in its paws for interacting with the robobear. The toy measures 14-inches tall, runs off four AA batteries, and is currently on sale for just $74 on Amazon.

If you want to be creeped out, check out this teardown of an original Ruxpin bear.
