LEGO Wind Turbine Set Includes First Plant-based Plastic Parts

As much as we love or LEGO sets, these building blocks are made of plastics, which are byproducts of crude oil and natural gases. And while we’re not tossing LEGO bricks in the trash like drinking straws, making them still isn’t great for the environment. That said, LEGO wants to be more sustainable, and it is starting with this set called the LEGO 10268 Creator Expert Vestas Wind Turbine.

The set is based on Vestas’ wind turbine which is installed in over 80 countries. What makes this set unique is its use of plant-based plastic. The tiny trees in the set are made from all-new sustainably sourced plant-based plastic. The plastic used to make the spruce trees are made from sugarcane. The rest of the plastic elements of this set still uses plastics from conventional sources, but I guess LEGO needed to start small to see how this goes before ramping up.

The 826-piece set has a Vestas Wind Turbine that stands 3.3 feet tall, and comes with the ‘Plants from Plants’ spruce trees, along with a house with a working porch light. You also get three LEGO Vestas servicemen minifigures and a LEGO dog. This is one pretty cool and innovative LEGO set. I’d really like to own this one. You can order yours for $199.99 starting on November 23, 2018 in the LEGO Shop.

Thunder Purple OnePlus 6T Won’t Be Released In The U.S.

OnePlus recently launched a new color option for its latest smartphone, the OnePlus 6T. The striking color option is called Thunder Purple. It’s only available in the company’s home market of China right now. It was believed that perhaps OnePlus may offer this color option in other markets later but that may not be the case.

The 8GB/128GB variant of the OnePlus 6T is only available in China for about $520. OnePlus didn’t say when it was announced if it would be selling the device in this colorway in any other markets across the globe.

There has certainly been a lot of interest from customers in this color option. Why wouldn’t there be, it does look really good. However, there’s bad news for those who have been holding out for this option as the company has confirmed that the Thunder Purple OnePlus 6T will remain exclusive to China.

The company’s fans would certainly be hoping that it reconsiders this decision. It would net the company more sales if it decided to release this color option in other markets across the globe such as the United States. Whether or not the company decides to do that at some point down the road remains to be seen.

Jaquet Droz’s “Sports Watch” is a high-end, heavy-duty chrono

Watchmaker Jaquet Droz makes luxury watches that cost more than some San Francisco apartments. Now, however, they’ve decided to go “downmarket” with their Sports Watch chronograph, a handmade watch that is designed for both work and play.

The watch is a standard chronograph with big date, a complication that displays the date as two digits instead of on a rotating dial. The resulting piece looks like a haute couture Speedmaster and should cost around $15,000, an acceptable sum for a manufacture watch with Droz’s provenance given that other Droz watches can run into the $100,000s, a price that might be less appetizing to the illiquid entrepreneur.

More from the release:

True to watchmaking tradition, the hour markers are 18-carat white gold appliques. Wide Roman numerals indicate 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock. At 12 o’clock, Jaquet Droz features a big date, a complication traditional in fine watchmaking but rarely associated with a chronograph. Although more complex to produce than a simple date aperture, the large date offers superior readability. Again, to provide optimal readability, the latest versions of the SW Chrono feature a 45 mm dial, and a rail track over the motion work in fine watchmaking tradition.

The strap is made of “rolled-edge hand-made dark-blue fabric,” a unique addition to the luxury watch world that has thus far used rubber or metal for bands. It is water resistant to 50 meters, if you think you’re going to get wet with this thing on your wrist, and it should be on sale before the end of the year.

Google Maps speed trap warnings and crash reports appear in test

Google is testing new features in Google Maps that mirror offerings already available in Waze. The company is looking into both speed trap warnings and crash reports, both of which are already available in its other transportation app. Some users have access to these reports now, though it’s unclear how many people are seeing them at this time. Soundflow is a unique protective smartphone case

soundflowWhenever you purchase a brand new smartphone, there are normally two accessories that should never be negotiated or given a pass: the screen protector as well as a protective case. Many modern day smartphones, even from the mid-range segment, happen to feature a full aluminum body that is nice to look at, but all too slippery when handled. A protective case not only provides an adequate amount of grip, but it will also help prevent unwanted scratches or worse damage when knocked or dropped. The Soundflow is a special proposition where it not only functions as a smartphone case, it also doubles up as a wireless earbuds carrier and charger.

The Soundflow is best described as a protective phone case that has a built-in battery while hosting a pair of wireless earbuds, providing the best of everything in a simple package. Compatible with the iPhone 6 or newer, the Pixel 2 or newer, and the Galaxy S8 or newer, the Soundflow is the first of its kind in the world. Featuring high fidelity graphene, the wireless earbuds deliver ambient noise cancellation so that you can obtain maximum enjoyment from your music no matter where you go.

The Soundflow case carries enough charge to offer up to 200 hours of listening via the wireless earbuds, meaning you do not have to juice it up every single day. Knowing that most people who use wireless earbuds lead an active lifestyle, the Soundflow wireless earbuds are rated to be sweat, rain and dust proof. With a twist-to-lock secure fit, you can be sure that losing this pair of wireless earbuds is the least of your concern, and it provides a stable connection via Bluetooth 5.0. Dual microphones provide an avenue for hands-free calls, and on a full charge, the wireless earbuds deliver up to 8 hours of listening pleasure.

Expect the Soundflow smartcase to retail for $99 a pop.
