Teddy Ruxpin Returns to Terrify a New Generation

I remember one Christmas all my brother wanted was a Teddy Ruxpin. I hated those things, they were super creepy bears with mechanical animatronic eyes that blinked. I was pretty sure it would eat my soul during the night. Teddy is back for a new generation, and at least this one appears to lack those horrific eyes.

This updated version has LCD eyes that will still blink but don’t look as maniacal as those of the original. They can actually display more than 40 animations. The new Teddy Ruxpin differs from the original in how it loads stories too. This one reads along with stories on an app as his mouth moves and its digital eyes blink. Its mouth is motorized, so don’t stick your fingers in there.

Teddy also has touch sensors in its paws for interacting with the robobear. The toy measures 14-inches tall, runs off four AA batteries, and is currently on sale for just $74 on Amazon.

Red Dead Online Beta Release Date Announced

Many players have been enjoying Red Dead Redemption 2 for a bit now. Sadly I haven’t started playing yet, so I’m a little jealous. But I’ll saddle up soon. In the meantime, we have some good news. The release date of RDR2’s beta for the online component has been announced, with the trial run kicking off tomorrow, 11/27/18.

Only select players will be able to participate in the beta when it launches on Tuesday, though. If you bought the Red Dead Redemption 2 Ultimate Edition you’ll get the first shot at the online beta. After the release date, other players will be able to test Red Dead Online in intervals. On November 30th, the online beta will be accessible by everyone who owns the game.

Players will be able to create their own characters and play with friends online. There will be both competitive and cooperative elements included. It’s apparently similar to how online gameplay worked in Grand Theft Auto V. You will be able to create and customize your character and your abilities to suit your play style. It should be fun.

My favorite phone of 2018

This year I reviewed a lot of phones and test-drove more than I reviewed. Some phones, like the phone I’m about to write about, I got the opportunity to use at a time that was well after the usual reasonable window of opportunity for reviewing a smartphone. I got the LG V35 ThinQ at a time at which the LG … Continue reading

The Time Capsules That Will Outlast the Apocalypse

When we die, we leave behind information. This information can take many forms, from our genetics, replicated in future generations, to posts on the internet. We keep history trapped in photographs, videos, and stories written down into books. Sometimes, we take treasured artifacts, place them within a time capsule,…

LG's Dreaming Big in Its Patent for a 16-Camera Device

Phones with two or more rear cameras are already quite widespread, but with its recently granted patent, LG is dreaming of something much more ambitious. That’s because even though LG already has a five-camera phone in the V40, the company may be looking to more than triple that number up to 16.

Red Dead Online Beta Goes Live Tomorrow

It has been almost a month since the much-awaited Red Dead Redemption 2 was launched. Rockstar had previously said that it would launch the game’s online mode in beta soon. That’s going to happen tomorrow. Rockstar has confirmed that Red Dead Online will go live in beta on November 27th.

The Red Dead Online beta won’t go live for everyone at the same time. Rockstar is staggering the launch so it will go live for some users initially. It’s likely doing this to prevent the server issues that had caused problems when GTA Online was rolled out a few years back.

Customers who purchased the ultimate edition of Red Dead Redemption 2 will get access to the beta from tomorrow. The beta will then open up to anyone who played the game when it launched on October 26th the following day. It will be playable on Thursday for anyone who played the title between October 26th and 29th. Red Dead Online beta will then finally be opened up to all players on Friday, November 30th.

Red Dead Online is free for anyone who owns the Red Dead Redemption 2 game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The base game is the foundation of the online mode which takes on a life of its own that’s shared by multiple players.

Facebook Reportedly Shuts Down Anti Fake News ‘War Room’

Facebook has taken a lot of criticism for the spread of misinformation or fake news on its platform during the 2016 U.S. presidential elections. The company has taken steps since then to ensure that something like that does not happen again. It launched a “war room” before the U.S. midterm elections to prevent the spread of fake news. A new report claims that the social network has now shut it down.

Bloomberg reports that Facebook has shut down the war room and that it won’t be reopened for future elections. When Facebook showed it off to the media it got a lot of attention and some speculated that perhaps it was a publicity stunt on the company’s part.

Facebook said at that time that the war room would bring together people from across the company’s divisions in one room to improve threat detection and prevention ahead of the midterm elections. The war room was reportedly deployed for the presidential election in Brazil last month.

Even though the war room has now been shut down, Facebook told the scribe that it’s going to use different strategies for future elections and it has formed a “strategic response team” under vice president of operations Justin Osofsky to deal with time-sensitive threats.
