Thunder Purple OnePlus 6T Launched In China

Some smartphone manufacturers often release new color options for their flagship handsets a couple of months after they hit the market. It’s a good way to drum up sales for a handset that has been out for a few months. OnePlus isn’t waiting to do that for the OnePlus 6T. It’s now offering a new color option for the device in China merely weeks after the device was released.

Recently leaked promo images had suggested that the company may soon offer a new color option for the device. The new color option was reportedly going to be called Thunder Purple. That has been officially launched today. The Thunder Purple OnePlus 6T is now available for purchase in China.

Nothing other than the color is different about this variant. It’s the same OnePlus 6T that’s available elsewhere, the only difference being the color option that’s quite unique in its appearance.

This is the 8GB RAM variant with 128GB of storage. It comes with the same Snapdragon 845 processor. OnePlus is selling this for CNY3,599 which is around $520. The company is yet to confirm if and when this color option may be available in other markets. It will surely find a lot of takers for it outside China as well.

SpaceX’s Starman and Tesla Roadster Have Gone Beyond Mars

Nine months is a long time; it’s long enough to have a baby. It’s also long enough for the Tesla Roadster and its Starman passenger to have traveled from the Earth orbit it was initially placed in, to beyond the orbit of Mars. SpaceX tweeted the milestone along with an orbit map showing where Starman and his ride were on Friday.

The car and passenger are now making their way back towards Earth and will continue to make the rounds for millions of years to come. Those continued orbits for all eternity assumes the Roadster isn’t picked up by aliens and doesn’t smash into a planet. You see, there is a chance that the Roadster will smash into Earth or Venus in the next few million years.

The Roadster was put into orbit as a publicity stunt during the maiden voyage of the Falcon Heavy rocket. The next Falcon Heavy payload put into space will be something a bit more useful – communications satellite called Arabsat-6A. It’s expected to launch in January 2019.

Yub nub! Students dress a bipedal robot up like an AT-ST

Students at Oregon State University dressed up their bipedal robot, Cassie, in a delightful AT-ST costume. This robot, which everyone said looked like one of the Empire’s two-legged walkers, anyway, can now zap both Rebels and Ewoks in a deadly battle to take control of the forest city of Corvallis.

The robot, as you can see, can change its center of gravity for better stability and, because it doesn’t have a torso or arms, can balance in multiple difficult environments. It can also now fire lasers at primitive man-bears stuck in the Stone Age.

The Dynamic Robotics Lab at Oregon State University built the original robot and now Agility Robotics is mass-producing the bipedal machines, presumably for for Grand Moff Tarkin. You can see Cassie without her costume here, but I think the Star Wars version is far superior.
