Luxury Resort In Bali Bans Smartphones From The Pool

Many of us go on vacations to unwind and relax but it’s often difficult to disconnect from smartphones and electronic devices even when we’re on vacation. A luxury resort in Bali, Indonesia wants to help you do that and also ensure that your phone doesn’t disturb other guests who just want to relax by the pool. For that reason, the five-star Ayana Resort & Spa has banned smartphones and other electronic devices from one of its pools.

As part of its “In the Moment” campaign, the resort is encouraging guests to disconnect entirely and enjoy their downtime the good old fashioned way. It’s doing this in order to create a “haven for guests.”

The resort will enforce this ban on smartphones and electronic devices at the River Pool between 9 AM to 5 PM. Signage will be put up around the pool informing users that these devices are not allowed. Lockers will be offered so that guests can keep their devices secure while they relax by the pool.

“The ethos of the River Pool is to create a place of tranquillity, where our guests can truly relax,” Ayana Resort & Spa told Lonely Planet News, adding that “Our intention is to preserve who we are by valuing human connection and me-time.” The resort has even created a cocktail called “In the Moment” to further elevate guests’ tech-free pool experience.

Warcraft Mobile Game May Take Inspiration From Pokemon Go

Blizzard has taken a lot of flak for Diablo Immortal but that’s not going to force it to put other mobile projects on the back burner. A new report suggests that Blizzard is already working on a Warcraft mobile game. The title will reportedly take inspiration from Niantic’s augmented reality hit Pokemon Go.

Blizzard’s incubation team is reportedly developing this Warcraft mobile game. This department was formed when its co-founder Allen Adham returned a couple of years ago. It’s the very same department that worked on Diablo Immortal as well.

The decision to take inspiration from Pokemon Go for this title apparently came from lead designer Cory Stockton who is a true fan of the franchise. Blizzard may have also come to the realization that such a spinoff might result in substantial revenues for the company.

It’s also mentioned in the report that even though a team at Blizzard will be focused on this mobile game, that’s not going to get in the way of the development of Diablo’s next iteration. It’s said to be darker than Diablo III and has a part of the main team working on it. However, it may be a while before we get to see this title, as the next major installment in the Diablo franchise isn’t expected to arrive until 2020 or even later.

Foldable Galaxy Phone’s Price May Be Close To $2,500

Samsung recently confirmed that it will be unveiling its much-rumored foldable smartphone next year. The company did show off the foldable display that will ship with this device at SDC 2018 earlier this month. While it hasn’t revealed anything about pricing and availability at this point in time, reports suggest that it will be a very expensive device. One recent claims that the price might be around $2,500.

A report by Gizmodo UK claims that this smartphone, which may be called the Galaxy Flex, is going to be exclusive to one carrier in the United Kingdom. It also mentions that the handset may be priced between £1,500 and £2,000. A simple conversion reveals the price range to be $1,920 – $2,560.

Granted, smartphone pricing does vary by market and a straight conversion is never really a good indication of the pricing. However, what it does do is provide us with a range in which the price of the device will fall.

If the information in this report is accurate, it can then be reasonably believed that Samsung’s foldable Galaxy smartphone may cost more than $1,500. At that rate, it would only be seasoned enthusiasts picking up this device as Samsung likely won’t find a lot of takers for it in the general public.

The price will eventually come down in a couple of years once the component and manufacturing processes get cheaper but until then, the vast majority of customers may opt against purchasing the foldable smartphone largely because of its high price.

Jony Ive And Marc Newson Designed Ring To Fetch $250K For Charity

Apple’s design boss Jony Ive and his design partner Marc Newson have teamed up to design an all-diamond ring for charity. The ring is made entirely from a single diamond. It’s going to be auctioned at a (RED) charity event at Design Miami on December 5th. Auction house Sotheby’s estimates that this ring could fetch between $150,000 to $250,000.

Ive’s love for minimalist design is well known and we can see that reflected here in this ring. The metal band that’s conventionally a fundamental part of the ring has been done away with in favor of a minimal design that fashions the band from the diamond itself.

The stone is a lab-grown diamond from Diamond Foundry. It’s a company backed by Leonardo DiCaprio that’s certified carbon neutral. The auction’s winner will have it specially crafted for them and it will be made to fit up to a US size 5. The auction will take place at Design Miami on December 5th at 7PM EST.

Per the listing on Sotheby’s, “The diamond block will be faceted with several thousand facets, some of which are as small as several hundred micrometers. The interior ring will be cylindrically cut out for the desired smoothness using a micrometer thick water jet inside which a laser beam is cast.”
