Qualcomm May Announce New Snapdragon Chip On December 4th

Qualcomm is yet to announce its next-generation smartphone silicon. We have seen some of the competition launch their chips in recent months. Huawei’s Kirin 980 is already shipping in devices and so is Apple’s A12 Bionic in iPhones. Samsung has also unveiled the Exynos processor that will power its Galaxy S10. Time now for Qualcomm to show what it has been working on. According to a new report, it will do that on December 4th.

Even though it’s the successor to the Snapdragon 845, previous reports have suggested that the new chip is actually going to be called the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150. According to notable Twitter leaker Ice Universe, Qualcomm will be unveiling the Snapdragon 8150 processor at the Qualcomm Technology Summit in Hawaii on December 4th.

The company has reportedly sent out invitations to the Chinese media already and may also send them out for media in other regions soon enough. The Snapdragon 8150 will reportedly be manufactured on TSMC’s 7nm FinFET processor like the latest chips from Huawei and Apple. It may also have an octacore CPU but with a different configuration.

It will be the processor of choice for many Android flagship smartphones next year, including a variant of the Galaxy S10. It may very well be the first smartphone to ship with this chip.

Siri Can Now Be Programmed To Launch Google Assistant

Apple does allow third-party voice assistants on its platform but they don’t get deep integration with the system. That’s served for Siri, Apple’s own voice assistant, even though its rivals are now capable of doing much more than it can. Google is now relying on a Siri feature to let iPhone users summon Assistant by simply asking the native voice assistant.

iOS 12 brought the Shortcuts feature for Siri. It allows users to create their customized Siri-based commands for third-party apps. Google is utilizing this feature in the latest update of Google Assistant for iOS to allow iPhone owners to launch Assistant by simply asking Siri.

They have set up a voice command like “Hey Siri, launch Assistant” to have Google Assistant come up whenever they want. With support for Siri Shortcuts now present, it will also be possible for users to talk to Assistant hands-free if the device is unlocked by using the same command.

It can also be used to execute a smart home routine in Google Assistant which lets the personal assistant execute multiple commands at once. In a smart home environment, that could mean turning off the lights, thermostats, and more when you simply say “Hey Google, I’m out.”
