A Hitman’s Fitness Tracker Helped Lead To His Conviction

Our wearables contain a lot of information about ourselves that sometimes we might forget it possesses. This could have been what led to the downfall of mob hitman Mark “Iceman” Fellows, who was found guilty by a jury at the Liverpool Crown Court for killing two rival gangsters.

These murders were committed several years ago and the police had actually suspected Fellows for his involvement. During the course of their investigation, they discovered that Fellows was wearable a fitness tracker – the Garmin Forerunner – during the 2015 Great Manchester 10K marathon which took place two months before the first murder.

The police then managed to locate the device in Fellows’ house, checked the GPS data, and found that he had plotted these murders with incredible precision and planning. Based on the feedback and help from an expert in satellite-based radio navigation, James Last, it found that the device had actually recorded a 35 minute activity starting from Fellows’ neighborhood to a field near the home of his first victim.

The judge presiding over the case has since sentenced Fellows to life in prison. This is actually not the first time we’ve heard of smartwatches and other tech gadgets solve crime. Previously it was reported that it was believed that Amazon’s Alexa could be evidence in another murder case where it might have recorded what actually happened.

Netflix Original Content Spending May Touch $15 Billion In 2019

Netflix spends a significant amount of money on content every year and the budget goes up with every passing year. It spent $12 billion creating original TV shows, movies, documentaries, and more in 2018. It’s expected that this number is going to rise to $15 billion in 2019.

The company’s Q4 2018 earnings report revealed that it spent $12.04 billion in cash on content just last year. That itself was a 35 percent increase from the $8.9 billion that it spent on content in 2017.

Wall Street analysts predict that this figure is now going to climb by 25 percent to hit $15 billion in 2019 on a gross cash basis. The company itself told investors that it will continue to burn cash. It expects to post negative $3 billion in free cash flow this year which will be similar to last year. It will fund this spending rate by once again going to the debt markets. Its long-term debt stood at $10.4 billion at the end of last year.

The $15 billion will go toward its slate of original content on which Netflix is counting to drive subscriber growth. Some analysts do expect that Netflix’s spending in this area will cool off in the coming years but it is expected to hit a peak of almost $18 billion next year.

One major reason for Netflix’s continued heavy investment in original content is the extra competition in the market. Media behemoths Disney, NBCUniversal, and WarnerMedia are all going to jump into the streaming game this year so Netflix does need to take pre-emptive steps to ensure that it doesn’t lose subscribers.

‘Lego Movie 2’ Promises Even Catchier Tune To Get Stuck Inside Your Head

Why, “Lego Movie 2,” why?

Melting Metal LEGO Minifigs Like Mini Terminators

What you’re about to watch is either a James Cameron movie with a VERY low budget, or a bunch of LEGO minifigs made out of gallium and melted for fun. It’s actually the latter, and it is very fun to watch. YouTuber DaveHax used LEGO minifig shaped ice molds to make some figures, then melted them like little T-1000s. It may just be the best thing ever.

Gallium is a solid metal at room temperature but has a melting point of around 86°F (30°C), and that’s what allows the magic to happen so easily. Minifigs look awesome in gallium, but they look even cooler when they melt. Too bad Dave couldn’t find a way to make it wear a tiny police uniform.

First, he tried to put them on a hot tray, but only the feet melted. Then he tried candles under the tray, but still no Terminator melting. They did melt, but not in the coolest way, but once he leaned it against the back of the tray, that’s when he got that sweet Terminator action. Check it out:

BTW I love Dave’s sciency voice.
